This begs the $64,000 question: Why are Rail cars being trucked 100 miles to Boston? Did they tear up the former B&A or B&M? Ive seen pictures of PCC cars built in Worcester being shipped by rail to Boston in the 1940's. The Commonwealth is supposedly pro rail freight, wants to reduce highwa...

Thanks guys, it makes sense now. I attended some of those NERR club meetings when I worked at MBCR. Retired 10 years ago! My buddy and I are going to try and catch it in the AM in Framingham. Then work our way to Worcester.

PAR 1 to Worcester ?

 by RRCOMM ¦  Wed Mar 30, 2022 4:40 pm ¦  Forum: Pan Am Railways (formerly Guilford Rail System) ¦  Topic: PAR Business Train (ST 100, 101, 102 & 103; PAR 1 & 2) ¦  Replies: 1462 ¦  Views: 388552

Does anyone have information regarding the possible movement of PAR 1 Loco to Worcester as part of a display?

I was told this would occur on Thursday, March 31.

My apology's in advance if there is no truth to this.

Some of the cars look like that, some are black but same build. Most Reporting Marks also look the same. Not new but not beat up. I just cannot picture a customer in the Readville area.

Could be for Brockton or Taunton but kind of out of the way . B731 was taking them via Walpole.

They were open top with no dump facilities. Could CSX have run out of space for storage at Framingham for the Fitchburg branch customer? I could not tell if they were loads or empty's.

Today I was in Readville and saw a large number of Hopper cars in the yard (40 or more). Never saw these before. B731 took 20 west which gave him a total train of about 45 cars. Anyone know where these are going to or from?... Also saw a Trackmobile switching cars at the former stop and shop facilit...

I don't want to stir up any bad feelings but felt I should bring this up: Last Sunday I stopped at the station in Ayer to observe the Pan Am action. There were a number of other Fans around, all very friendly and respectfully staying in the public areas, off the tracks and such. I had two friends wi...

A little off topic but I'll give it a shot: The "Line Gain" input on the base station has been turned up way too high or the leased line gain has been cranked up too much. FM radios sound loud when the transmitter deviation goes up. This is not the same as a stronger signal, as soon as you...

A few points about Railroad Signalling and Communications. First and foremost the system must be 100% fail safe. If anything goes wrong it must stop trains and not allow an unsafe move. This puts a burden on any equipment and software that is about the same as nuclear weapons. The physical interlock...

Here is something that is not well known regarding monitoring railroad radio transmissions: Under FCC rules it is perfectly legal to monitor radio transmissions not meant for the general public (radio other than broadcasting). But under the same FCC rules it is not legal to disclose that information...

OK so it's probably not a Locomotive radio like I suggested. If it is the pack set you would NOT have power wiring to the rack. Those were the last of the all tube portables, they used subminiature "pencil " tubes like those used in hearing aids and Proximity Fuses. Powered by dry cells. L...

There were a couple of possibilities. The Motorola Railroad radios of that era were the Motrac and the Motran. The Motrac had some tubes in it, the Motran was all solid state. There were two mounting options. There was a "one piece" that had the control head mounted to the top of the radio...

The game here is rigged so these guys earn 2 to 3 times as much as Commuter Rail employees (with better pensions and benefits).
