I would love to know more about the western MA operations that fell through. I always wondered why the name of New England Southern was chosen for an operation in New Hampshire and now I know. An excerpt from my recent book on the subject, The New England Southern Railroad, Volume 1 : "In the ...

Actually, MBRX runs through Lyndeborough to Greenfield usually once a year for their train show, and last month they took the entire stone train to Greenfield to celebrate the town's anniversary. As far as regular traffic though, you are correct it was the Wilton Scenic.

Caboose on the M&L in Manchester?

I recently heard that "about 10 years ago there was a caboose on the Manchester & Lawrence just north of Queen City Ave (Manchester) just sitting there. It disappeared at some point."

Does anybody know anything about this, or can confirm this? I have never heard about this before.

Not much to be had unfortunately, New Hampshire Central runs occasionally in the Whitefield - North Stratford area and St. Lawrence and Atlantic runs road freights on the old Grand Trunk line between Shelburne and North Stratford, but I believe those are at night. No Amtrak up that way

This was also one of the last locomotives to ever serve Keene, NH when the GMRC controlled the Ashuelot Branch from Brattleboro. Important piece of history!

The Rail Lines of Northern New England [Chapter 18, on the M&L] states that the "northern section (above the 1986 Derry- Londonderry abandomnent) lost its last shipper in November of 1998." Railpace 18, (August, 1999) is listed as a source, I don't know if that will give any additiona...

My guess would be Windham found some open space and zoned it for possible future industrial expansion......but not railroad revitalization. The Windham segment was the first to go on the M&L so I very highly doubt they would zone it based on the railroad. Im sure the railroad is not on the mind ...

Does anybody know when the last train served the industries along the Manchester & Lawrence Branch within Manchester and down to the airport? "Lost Railroads of New England" puts this line abandoned in 2000, but it says the line from Manchester yard to the airport had been out of use f...

Hopefully the Alcos live through the sale. If NECR (G&W) decides to keep running to Lavalley in Claremont the Alcos would be suitable for the lighter rail, however they still have friction bearings so they probably would be sold/scrapped. Its a shame, as #102 was once GMRC #305 and was one of th...

Prior to being operated by the Goodwin Railroad, the line to Lincoln was handled by the Wolfeboro Railroad which also owned a 44 tonner. Was this the same 44 tonner as the one the Goodwin owned? I believe this one eventually became a NEGS unit

The big ones that PAR took were Cement Quebec in Bow and Blue Seal at Bow Junction. There's also PSNH and the scrapyard further up towards the tower in Concord. Tanker cars are left on a siding north of the Water Street bridge, presumably unloaded by a company. Other than that, there weren't many ot...

When the City of Concord relocates the line in Concord slightly to the east to make room for the Storrs Street extension, what will become of the old Northern where it splits? Would they put a new switch in or just rip it out and call it quits? With the reported future military trains due to the Nat...
