I ran across this article in the Ithaca Daily Journal of April 20, 1874 and had to laugh: "The Horseheads Free Press has the following story to tell: A marked instance of the influence of the temperance movement has presented itself in Van Ettenville. Some three months ago, a liquor dealer said...

Thank you very much. Always good to see a line restored to service rather than torn up

I recently drove through Greene NY. Rt 206 crosses the old branch line. For years the track has been overgrown but the last two trips the track has been cleared of growth in both directions as far as the eye can see (at 25-30 mph). Are there plans to restore the line to service? Thanks in advance fo...

I suggest that you look at "Lehigh Valley in Color Vol III" p 81for a photo of 4 pups on the head end of a coal train on the Easton and Northern Branch. "Lehigh Valley in Color Vol IV" p84 shows 4 pups on the head end of a coal train at Black Creek Jct on the Hazelton Branch . Al...

You are correct. The clock hands reflect the time the last train left Ithaca though I cannot remember where I read that. Maybe the Ithaca Times

The correct time for the last train at Ithaca was 3:22. I stand corrected. On page 44-45 of the LV in Color Vol 2 are a couple of photos of the last Eastbound Maple Leaf at Easton including a inside photo of the train board. I cannot make out the time for the last train but it was eight hours late b...

According to "The Handsomest Trains in the World" the last Maple Leaf was ten cars long. There is a photo of the last train at Bethlehem on page 113 of that book. The clock outside of the old Ithaca station, now a Chemung Canal Bank, reflects the time the last train left the station. I thi...

About 10 years ago I went to Harrisburg PA to examine the Lehigh Valley holding at the State Archives looking for any info on the ROW. I found some information on the various water tanks along the LV in the Finger Lakes. I put the info into a file and only came across it a couple of days ago. Severa...

Went to Auburn today 2/22 and looked at the Herbert Trice collection. Only got through three of the 47 boxes. Lots of documentation, rosters of employees, photos some of which I have never seen before. I hope to get back in a few weeks. They do not allow camera but will photo copy for you (0.25$ per...

I have a couple of photos of the east side of the combination station at Gilbert NY. This is the back (non track) side of the station and there are few photos of this side of these stations. There is a photo of the back side of the Lodi NY station in David Marcham's Lehigh Valley Memories. I took th...
