Re: Grafton & Upton Railroad (G&U) Discussion

Here's an interesting G&U - Hopedale development: Looks like G&U is proposing to be involved in financing of "Draper Falls Urban Renewal Plan". Re-purposing of Draper property at Hopedale would be primarily residential and commercial retail (ie, I see no mention of developing land...

I agree, it doesn't look bad at all, it's just a shake from the classic/nostalgic NH livery that they've used on SLE.

Also, it looks like there are benches on those platforms, if you were just asking if they existed or not, they just blend in really well with the railings in back at night.

It's almost a disservice to the tax-cut boosters; if there's ever going to be a case of a company that'll pocket money instead of re-investing it, Pan Am is going to be it!

How's the Housy fairing after the tornado-spawning thunderstorm came through?

Were there separate contractors for the stations themselves?

Just as a note to above, it is worth taking the FEE (Foundation for Economic Education) article with a grain of salt due to where it's from. It's the longest-running libertarian think-tank, and while I'm not making a judgement on Libertarianism in general—I'm relatively sympathetic towards arguments...

There's also greater political considerations that impact each line independently, which are actually small -scale politics; LD Senators and Representatives tend to be very defensive of the routes that go through their constituencies, because said constituencies actually make noise. That's a better ...

However can you imagine the outcry from the county and "others" if the CMRR proposed transporting passengers in lightweight open-air cars across a state highway at grade in a 55mph zone? I'm sure there'll be some who might be less than amused, but I'm sure there'll also be some who are ju...

While it's hardly anything new or novel as far as activity going on in Middletown, I figure now that my commute is taking me through the city on Route 9 that I might as well give a few notes. (Also to just bump the thread!) Saw them taking a single load of lumber up the north half of the Valley Line...

Especially when one considers that LPG isn't a commodity that has a consistent year-round demand; while there is still a steady baseline demand, there's always going to be much more demand for it in the winter than in summer. I'd expect that to reflect through onto railroad traffic as well.

I'm assuming their operator, presumably G&W's P&W, told BSRR that they want to run conventional push-pull equipment because that is what they are used to. But they are clearly fuzzy about the technology, giving the wrong reasons! Making money as the only for-profit running passenger service...

They are still talking about $11 Billion to be spent on the cross harbor freight rail tunnel to the south. I would think there may be a way to share some of these ridiculous costs by planning and building these tunnels adjacent to each other (say the freight tunnel parallel and just south of the pa...

I'd love to see the fees the County paid for such a reply to be compiled. Lawyers aren't cheap... and, ~816 pages?

Except we’re not in Kansas anymore. The “local politics thing” might have been king in Ulster County, but now the county is dealing with “Washington” and a Federal Agency. That’s a whole other ball game! I understand completely what your saying, but we live in a society of rules and laws, and the l...

There was also a contractor working on the Shennecossett Road overpass last week on Tuesday.

EB has a new $5bn contract for 12 new submarines, which is a really big increase in work there. So it's no accident that they're prepping for more movements on the old main line.
