gprimr1 The train really struggled through the U shaped track. It would speed up, slam on the brakes, speed up, slam on the brakes, by the time we got to Fort Totten the whole train smelled of hot brakes. The start stop issue between U Street and Columbia Heights is explained in a post by IhaveGHOS...

I need to look because I am curious how far off the station's passenger volume is from what Metro predicted...

Do you mean the car number? Each car's number is prominently displayed on the outside as well. But if you mean in an emergency, then yes there is not a lot of signage inside each railcar showing what number it is.

From March 20 to April 3, Metro is hosting a "Fleet of the Future" Expo on the National Mall where visitors will be able to see Metro's upcoming 8000-series trains via a mock up. https://www.wmata.com/about/news/The-future-of-transit-is-near-Metro-invites-public-to-see-its-new-trains-and-b...

The MTA is seeking another $425 million dollars to complete the Purple Line, and the opening is now expected in 2027. That brings the total overruns to $4 billion dollars for a line that was expected to be operational by now. https://www.washingtonpost.com/dc-md-va/2024/03/04/purple-line-delay-425-m...

Metro announced today that 5 stations on the Red line - Fort Totten to Glenmont - will be shut down throughout summer 2024 so workers can build connections with the Purple Line.

That 65-mph limit on Phase II is coming back to bite them in the rear, eh. Regardless, we'll see if the drivers operate anywhere near these speeds. So many seem to have trouble staying at 55 mph. Cannot wait for ATO.

Rode a 6-car 7000-series this past Sunday when I flew back into IAD and headed home.

I believe, though, that the Metroway route is still a work in progress and that additional dedicated lanes are planned (or maybe under construction already) and that more of the route will also be direct vs circuitous. Unfortunately, the Metroway website is awful. https://metrowayva.com/

I don't understand a dedicated entrance to the complex as the north entrance is already practically at the site of the future complex. The station should have the southern entrance, as it was intended to. I can see that entrance being useful as a crowd-control measure, i.e. if certain entrances are ...

The US House Transportation Committee is holding a hearing today (Dec. 12, 2023) on the selection of the Greenbelt location. Expect lots of grilling, or friendly questioning, depending on the politician's home district. https://thehill.com/homenews/4355453-house-transportation-subcommittee-holds-hea...

I was skimming Metro's post about this weekend's track work and I was surprised to see Silver Line work mentioned. Specifically, Metro "will replace corroded concrete crossties" in the area between Spring Hill and Wiehle, necessitating speed restrictions. Should concrete crossties from Pha...

If anything, I suspect MORE FBI employees will drive given the new parking garages, even if there is an effort to discourage driving in favor of Metro. Also, I would not rule out the possibility that this decision is reversed.

Took the Silver Line from Ashburn to Dulles last week for the first time. I was one of those people dismissing the distance from the terminal by citing the moving walkways, which exist. But, having experienced it firsthand, it still is a long trek from the baggage claim area to the Metro station's f...

Assuming that person is still on the job, or that the person was not told by someone higher up or in engineering that these bolts were okay.
