Re: South Shore NICTD Double Track Project

Something I've noticed is the gauntlet tracks on this route seem "backward." The further tracks for freight trains that don't need the platform are the diverging route, while the straight through, and presumably faster route is the close track. Why? Wouldn't it make more sense to give the ...

We'll see. Some of those clamored-for infill stations are impractical due to curves or elevation. Also, apparently the Mayor went and said this without even talking to MARTA first. One of these locations will be a station near what was fort McPherson. Never understood why the original rail line did ...

I'm going to disagree that it "doesn't run through populated areas." There might not be houses back up to the tracks south of 184th st, but it's only 10 miles from there to Homestead. With sparse stations, that's perfect commuter rail territory for trains to run 60-80. It's also flat and a...

Curious, and this may have been answered upthread: will seat selection at purchase be available on the Airos? That’s a big drawback on the Regional. It's not helpful to the employees who use Regional and Keystone trains to either Deadhead or commute to work. It would almost force them to get a tick...

I still can't get over the fact that there's no plans to extend the Denton County A-Train ONE stop to connect to this.

When an agency owns train cars operated in a pool with another agency like DelDOT does, and I believe CDOT does for Metro North equipment, do they literally own four (in this case) particular vehicles? I'm thinking about things like propane cylinders and welding gas. I "own" a cylinder of ...

How does the Heartland Flyer get to Dallas on game days? Just pulls back along the TRE line?

Why are they limiting service? Funding? Extremely low ridership?

Probably into the accounting department. It seems to be a pretty big black hole in Amtrak. Planning department too. They could be parked alongside the equipment for the Skyline Connection and Crescent Star.

Reading all of this, I actually wonder if a more viable Memphis route is direct to Chattanooga via Huntsville? The NS Memphis Districts are mostly flat and straight. Some mountains and curves near Chattanooga, but most of the run west of Huntsville is pretty direct, and the run between Huntsville an...

The information I have is it was due to heat restrictions. Trains were restricted to 25mph in many places.

nomis wrote: Wed May 10, 2023 11:58 am The biggest issue for PTC requirements is the Brunswixk station area. East of there, with 4 trips (2 RT's) a day would be covered for an exemption.
Brunswick might be considered a terminal area where it's not required, or the short length where trains overlap could be run at Restricted speed.

The bus had three trips per day. How many will the train have? If it's significantly more, then I'd say that's why the bus has such low ridership.

*SNIP* As for the Homestead extension itself, it's a great idea all the way down to the Miami Zoo. Below that, however, the population thins out drastically as the line goes through the Redlands, and doesn't pick up again until it hits Homestead itself 9 miles further down. A 9ish mile gap isn't to...
