Re: Lake Shore Limited

 by 7express ¦  Sat May 06, 2023 1:07 am ¦  Forum: Amtrak ¦  Topic: Lake Shore Limited ¦  Replies: 878 ¦  Views: 225980

So I'm going to Chicago next month. I have the option of taking the Cardinal or the LSL back to Penn on the day I'm leaving (on a Saturday) each with it's pro's and cons: LSL pros: Since I live in CT, I'm going to have to go to Grand Central, and I could just disembark at Poughkeepsie or Croton-Harm...

I was on one of those Super expresses this evening #3546, the one leaving at 4:49. If you've read my posts on here from 10+ years ago, I was looking for something like this, but the train was completely empty. I think it was only a 4 car train as it was, I was in the second car from the back and lea...

Re: Longest Amtrak delays ever

 by 7express ¦  Sat Aug 07, 2021 2:35 am ¦  Forum: Amtrak ¦  Topic: Longest Amtrak delays ever ¦  Replies: 21 ¦  Views: 5413

My longest personally was about 6 hours. Coming back from Chicago I did the long-scenic route back to Connecticut....took the Cap Limited to DC before getting a regional back home. Something happened in the overnight hours so we were like 5.5 hours late into Pittsburgh, and once we got there they pu...

Re: Why does Amtrak still serve North Philadelphia & Cornwells Heights?

I think 79 (the Carolinian) makes Princeton Junction a stop in 1 direction. Aside from that train and a few Keystone service trains does anything else stop at Princeton Junction, New Brunswick, or North Philadelphia anymore? Speaking of low service: does Newark, Delaware still only have that 1 train...

I love this 11 years old and still going strong :-D

I think the reason the NH trains only discharge (New York bound) and receive (Connecticut bound) is when the Boston & New Haven and Penn Central combined the Central didn't want the Boston & New Haven "stealing" their customers. I know it's something like that but don't know the en...

Re: Amtrak considering eliminating QuickTrak machines

I won't miss them. Half the time the card wouldn't even work in the machine anyways, and most of the time I just printed them out at home. Even with a smart phone I still print them out at home anyways.

Acela Express and the airports

I don't ride the Acela Express often, mainly due to the fact it doesn't stop in Bridgeport, but I was on vacation to Washington last weekend and decide to splurge on the Acela. On the ride down looking through the national timetable I noticed most of the Acela's stop at the BWI airport station while...

Mactraxx: I'm a Nationals fan anyways, so I listen to all the games, so missing this really wouldn't be the end of the world. Plus coming from Bridgeport I'd have to take MNCR regardless so at least for me putting up with the crowds and the subway transfers from Woodlawn or sitting in traffic travel...

I was at the Mets/Nationals game in Queens last night. Got the e-mail at like 6:30 saying service was suspended, didn't pay much attention because I didn't know how bad it was, and I knew I wasn't going to be back there till like 10:30. Luckily my sister works next door to the Irvington train statio...

Electrification is going to save what, less than 4 minutes off the time, and they'll have the same number of through trains (4) anyways??

Everyone: On a related matter: What is Metro-North's policy regarding City Ticket use on New Haven Line trains at Fordham, 125th Street and GCT? I know that they are only supposed to be honored on Harlem Line trains but in the instance that a passenger boards the wrong train - or perhaps deliberate...

Yes, reasonably close - perhaps 1/2 mile or so. https://www.google.com/maps/d/viewer?mid=z186P6Tl3H2M.kwFLIQ8bUWCk&hl=en_US I'll stand by my assessment that it is just under 1/2 mile. The E/W "blocks" in Manhattan are not your average 1/20 of a mile as you can see from the map. Also, ...
