After almost 7 years, I've got to poke this thread back to life. I am told there is discussion of G&W cabooses on Facebook and there was some question about the 4-wheelers which this thread may clarify. HOWEVER , it appears that over time, one of the images has been replaced with a pic of a toy...

From a few of my Facebook groups im on are reporting the locomotive was rebuilt from former MEC GP-38 254 Yes, that looks correct, originally a MEC GP38. Now rebuilt and now has the roof fan configuration of a GP40 (three rear radiator fans) but is classified as a Motive Power Industries MP20GP. ht...

It's the local between Rochester Goodman street yard and Batavia yard. It's been using a caboose/shoving platform for quite a few years now. Not sure how often it runs, might be daily Mon-Fri, or at least a few times per week.

I'm guessing "Victory" and "Victory Mills" are the same place? (I'm a western New Yorker. ;) If so, by 1935 the railroad through town was the Boston & Maine, and it ran right alongside the main street, Gates ave/Route 32. you can see it on the 1935 topo map here: http://legac...

No, you were right the first time. ;) 10 years, not 20.
1999 was 20 years ago.
2009 was 10 years ago. (technically 11 years)

When I was a teenager in the 80's I kept a list (written out by hand in a small notebook) of all the Conrail, D&H, Susquehanna and Guilford locomotives I saw and photographed running through my hometown. I recorded Locomotive model type and road number. But I probably only did it for a few month...

I agree it's unlikely..but:

Everyone, 1960 to 2012: "Will a Big Boy ever be restored to operating condition?"
Everyone, 1960 to 2012: "No, it will never happen."

Probably the same reason 99% of steam-era structures have been torn down: They aren't needed anymore. And, railroads have a strong incentive to tear down unneeded structures: property taxes. If they leave it up, but empty and unused, they are still taxed on it. Railroads tear things down the second ...

Sorry about that R, but based on the thread we are in, I didn't think specifying was necessary. ;)
LAL 420 is LIRR 200.

Ok another question. In regards to the Erie heading into Mt Morris you’ve indicated was an electric line. Looking at the 1974 NYS Abandoned Inventory PDF that Russ posted a few years ago the surveyors in describing the line say “primarily used as an electric line “ Does that imply that it may have ...

Scot, I have liked following your web posting over the years but so many of the links on RR net appear to have been severed. Is that a RRNET issue? I see a common issue with so many other posters. Mark Thanks to Mark's question, I just discovered that I do have some dead links on that page.. It's b...
