Re: 2020 Spring Train Show Schedule for Upstate NY

I attended the Scranton show last week (March 8). This was my first time so I cannot compare previous attendance, but it was crowded. It was also a good show and worthwhile to attend. I found some obscure HO stuff that I was interested in. I am still healthy. I think that it was unlikely that anybod...

Thank you for your prompt responses. I just wanted a definite confirmation since there was nothing about the Binghamton show except on this discussion list. I would be driving a longer distance and wanted to be sure that the show was on, and I needed the location and time. I lived in Endicott many y...

Can anybody confirm the Binghamton train show in March so far as location, date, and time? I have not found any definite references to it. Thank you.

This looks rather intriguing, but I do not have an answer. The curvature though suggests something rr or subway related. It goes a bit beyond Villa Ave if you look closely. Maybe post the question on the subway forum.

Just listening to the radio (1450am WPG in AC) in the car the host (forgot his name) made some comments about the AC Line service. He said that he will forward any news on the radio. But he felt that the AC Line will not be coming back. I unfortunately hold this same opinion. As I have indicated pre...

I am very discouraged about this but not surprised. NJT was never forthright. I was keeping my fingers crossed that the line would come back, but now it looks like this is not happening. In the US there have been numerous examples 'temporary' suspensions of service becoming permanent. NJT stated tha...

I have been an occasional rider of the AC Line from AC or EHC to Lindenwold or Philly. It has always been a pleasant and fast ride. The closure of the AC Line came as a quick surprise although in some ways it was inevitable. I am critical of NJT because they are barely apologetic about this closure....

Timetable Anomalies (historical)

I lived in St James LI way way back (1940s, 50s). Flowerfield (east of St James) was a scheduled and flag stop for several trains and was listed as such in the pocket (TDI) and branch timetables thru 1955. But Flowerfield was eliminated as a stop sometime after that. As late as 1959 Flowerfield was ...

This has been an interesting discussion. I think tho that we now have to face the reality of the costs of food service on trains (as some folks have pointed out). As railfans many of us would like to return to the days of the 20th Century Ltd, the SP Daylights, and the Santa Fe psgr trains as exampl...

Does anybody remember the Hamburger Choo-Choo Restaurant in Patchogue? I think that it was on Main St. Food was delivered to your counter seat by Lionel train.

Thank you for the discussion about Northport. Moving on toward Patchogue I remember as a kid in the 1950s that much of the Patchogue battery trolley trackage was still visible in the concrete pavement on Ocean Ave and on Main St. Subsequent re-pavings obliterated this. The line was planned to go to ...

Thank you to everyone for your thoughtful responses. Ideally (but really fantasy today) it would nice to have 2 trains / day on the LD routes with about an 8 or 10 hour difference in departure times thereby avoiding the middle-of-the-night inconvenient schedules for some stops along the route.

I can't think of a good name for this subject, but we have had lots of interesting discussions of Anderson, dining cars, and the future of LD trains. Who knows what the end result will be. But years ago I used to ride from Chicago several of the LD trains like the Empire Builder, Southwest Chief, an...

This structure 'El Dorado' was dismantled very early, likely before 1900. So the postcard is either before the structure was built or after it was dismantled. Trains ran under Blvd East and then out onto the structure. Then you took the elevator to ground level for the ferry. Today you can still see...

From a strictly railfan point of view this is too bad, but it was just about inevitable. Last year I rode a 611 trip, and I asked myself how long could this continue with steam on a mainline and literally hundreds of persons milling about near and on the right-of-way. Also Amtrak today must have ver...
