Re: Francis Scott Key Bridge - Class I Impact

No way it's a couple of weeks. I was talking to my brother-in-law who works for what I presume is one of Tadman's competitors, and he said 90 days at a minimum. Getting the equipment staged and other planning to start the demolition is going to take 4 to 8 weeks alone. The divers and other experts n...

Noted in another group. Seaports received 2.25 billion in the Biden infrastructure bill. Amtrak received 2.1 billion. One of those keeps the economy moving, the other is an oversized train set for politicians. Something tells me the economic impact of the port being closed will be in the billion-dol...

Sadly there's no other Maryland port. I am glad that it did hit the Key Bridge and not the Chesapeake Bay Bridge. As bad as it is now, I would think it would be much much worse if the CBB got hit and collapsed. CBB would be worse for the general public, but because of the tunnels under the shipping...

Condolences to the families of the workers killed... This isn't the first tragedy like this -- the Sunshine Skyway bridge, of very similar design, was lost in 1980 for the same general cause. 30+ people died if I remember, and the new bridge has concrete bollards (called dolphins) which better prote...

I'm guessing that guarantee assumes the newer cars are used as cabs. That's not much different from other heavy rail operators. TRE and other Herzog operations have the mini-highs positioned for the cab cars because that's where the conductor is most likely to be when stopped. Metra only guarantees ...

There are two orders of cars that Caltrain purchased from Nippon Sharyo. The first batch in 1984 was likely not ADA compatible. There were 73 cars in the order. Can't say they're going to be of much interest as replacements anywhere. https://www.n-sharyo.co.jp/business/tetsudo_e/pages/zcaltrans.htm ...

Doubling down, eh?

Show a little respect. This isn't the time or the place to be trying to score political points against railroad management policies.

Not all ports are created equal. PHL, SAV, ORF, EWR and JAX can also handle neo-Panamax ULCVs, but none of them are really equipped for surge capacity. Would not surprise me at all to see some BAL bound ships being diverted to places like Houston or even St John. Sent from my SM-S911U using Tapatalk

Can you still book a cruise ship to one of their destinations? Then at a later date book on another back to the USA? No cruise lines departing from the US that I'm aware of will allow leaving or joining the cruise part way thru the itinerary absent a medical emergency or missing the original depart...

Not necessarily an office, but one of the last freight customers for the UP in downtown. https://wgntv.com/news/chicago-news/blommer-chocolate-to-close-chicago-manufacturing-facility/ For those less familiar with the area, Blommer sits right at the Clinton Ave curve that becomes the throat to Olgilv...

Huh. I wonder what happened to the single level demonstrator...

This thing had leather reclining seats at one end, tables with booth seating at the other.

I'd think that not having to do an engine move would remove a fair amount of exposure to injuries or damage to the engine or trainset, and definitely less wear & tear on HEP/trainline connectors and to a lesser degree the couplers.

So Keolis employees spend nights away from home?...

What I've seen of other commuter operations (e.g. Herzog and UPRR) is that those are mostly bid lines with set days off and an extra board to cover vacations and call-offs.

Feel free to offer up what's different about Keolis.
