Re: CR on the Southern Secondary

No hazmat on that train, crews know the tracks, I would not be more supportive of the RR employees.

Re: Trains on CSX St. Lawrence Sub (CR's Montreal Secondary)

CSX and CN also announced a joint marketing agreement for traffic between Quebec, Ontario and the NYC area, so it seems likely that traffic would run on the highly efficient CSX route and not down the winding NYSW route. I am imagining also that CSX would have CN not using NYSW to reach NS, as part ...

Re: Middlebrook / Chimney Rock branch: NY corruption story?

Nothing has Main St...the first RR crossing on the branch...in more than a year. It looks like Somerville Lumber is no longer a customer, or the line is embargoed, and the quarry isn't using the RR. What a waste of taxpayer money!

Re: Southern Tier - West of Binghamton

what is the news on downgrading Allentown yard more specifically?
The railroads may eventually see operational advantages to having PTC installed; moreover, the price of future PTC installations may drop precipitously, once the required installations are completed.

Re: NYGL Dundee Spur Status - 2009-present

NYGL was a street-running line that lost its industrial base. How could it survive? They made a decent run of it. Sad to see it go.

Re: Saratoga & North Creek (S&NC) Discussion

...too bad...could be for many reasons. Until CP quotes decent rates to interchange near Albany, or offers better service through Chicago, this branch's prospects are limited.

Re: upturn in freight on RV line?

Within the last month track has been laid, not yet ballasted, into the quarry area. Perhaps this work will be done this spring once and for all. I think the lumber yard may have closed, so the only customer left would be NJ Transit buying stone from the quarry.

Both bridges are back in service and service appears to be fully restored, as of a few weeks ago I believe.

Re: High Bridge Branch - Toys R Us warehouse

I believe this topic was covered in other threads, to the effect that NS/ToysRUs found it more cost effective to transload hi cube box cars or intermodal containers in the big transload facilities near the old Bethlehem steel mill, and dray them over to the warehouse, than to ship in non-hi cube box...

Re: NYS&W and the Marcal Paper fire

Hopefully the building is insured sufficiently to pay for rebuilding [with more fireproof construction and fire prevention tools].
And hopefully NJ's anti-business politicians will have the wisdom to give them tax incentives to rebuild.

Can't remember the source to site[believe it was Trains Mag], but BNSF staff assert that IRR, not OR, is the right metric.

Re: CSX Boston and Albany Line

I saw a 70 car freight train come down from Guilford through Union Station in Worcester yesterday at 10:30. It then started to back up onto the southern main track of CSX. What was the operation there? Is CSX combining the Guilford and P&W into a massive westbound train each day?

Re: Lowell Line - Winchester, Woburn, Wilmington Spottings

I am hoping I can rebuild our siding off the Wye at the Lowell Junction to start receiving sand and gravel cars that we are currently trucking in. See my other thread as we are looking for a gravel pit to mine and ship to Lowell junction. You guys probably know whats along the rails better than me....

They were once a meaningful shipper too. I don't know how much use they made of the NYSW recently
