I haven't been to DC in a few years but I know the 7000 series cars have taken over. Are they primarily assigned to one line or have they taken over? I'd like get some more photos of non 7000 series trains when I visit next month. Any suggestions on where to go?

Still at Beale. It lives under a 'carport' most of the time.

The union didn't hire this guy. Amtrak did.

It is not active at all. This part of the Waukesha Sub has been out of service since 2014.

An abandoned railroad bridge is no more or less dangerous than an abandoned station or coaling tower.

The seating can be turned. It's just the crews have gotten lazy over the years and leave the cars with half facing forward and half facing backwards.

Purpose of red Mars Light and Beacon on F40PHM-2s?

While going thru some old pictures, I noticed the F40PHM-2 locos working on the BN line have red beacons next to the orange one and a red mars light next to the white/clear one on the roof. Older photos show them still installed, but I have not found a photo of either in use. What was/is the purpose...

They are all route control now. In the EJ&E days, they were both and CN had to put out special instructions for signals on the former EJ&E territory.

Now all of the ABS at speed signals have been replaced.

One of the main problems with this proposal / project is that it tries to go back in time 75 years. Logistics and Supply Chain Management have changed. Years ago the DoD ordered supplies and had them sent to central distribution warehouses and then sent to the bases / posts that need them. In modern...

With all do respect, you're just a Spec/4 that is in way over his head. Can you give me ONE example of where the Army uses boxcars outside the confines of a Post / Plant? I didn't think so. Likewise, how often do dedicated military ships actually depart from a MOT? Have you even looked that logistic...

One of the most fundamental flaws with this plan is that railroads don't want this business. There's no money in single car loads. The Army doesn't want the railroads to have this business either because manifest service is so painstakingly slow. When I was at Fort Hood we frequently sent out entire...

Do the North Carolina Piedmont trains still operate with heritage coaches? They did last time I was in Greensboro, but that was a few years ago.

I bought a Day Pass from an old machine at East Falls Church yesterday. It said the pass was $14.50, then it jumped up to $16.50. When I paid for it, it spit out a SmartTrip with a day pass loaded on it. I was expecting (and wanting) a paper ticket for my collection. I was not expecting a SmartTrip ...

This is quite a tall and tricky order. There are a lot of bases that use rail, like Fort Drum NY, that do not have their own locomotives. Bases like Fort Rucker AL and Fort Lee VA have spurs, but seldom get cars. And Fort Irwin / NTC as you pointed out uses the USMC base at Yermo for their rail, the...
