Was going through my Photobucket today and thought I'd share these pictures of the layout I was working on in high school. I've moved several times after leaving home, so I still have the trains, just nowhere to run them in my apartment, haha. That's quite the collection of vehicles and constructio...

The Route 24 crossing was completely rebuilt a few years ago. Correct. "Harward's Crossing" was originally an at-grade crossing in the earlier days of the line's existence. The Harward's station was closed in 1929, and razed when the overpass was built, in the early 1930's. I believe it w...

Beyond the posting of emergency contact signs at the crossings, I hadn't seen any sign of trains traversing the branch this spring/summer. The crossings remained full of winter silt. Today, however, I noticed fresh grooves - looks like something light weight like a hi-rail truck. Keep an eye out fo...

I've been away from the forum for longer than I realized. I'd like to address a couple of comments: Of course, with PTC in place, it's all that much easier to design a system that sits at the grade crossing and drops signals if there's an incursion. Do you mean "drops signals" for an appro...

The other day I had stopped at a crossing as the lights started up and the gates dropped at Los Chavez, the idiot behind passed me and ran the gates, barely missed the BNSF Freight headed to Belen running at 40 mph, could have spent that afternoon as a witness to the Darwin act of dumbness. After the...

Okay, i thought I had read somewhere that there was no prototype for an Athearn "Hustler," but that sure looks like one to me. :-D
The paint job and lettering look great.

Googling "Marysville PA speeding trains," I found a few results (UPI Archives, etc.) from June-July 1986: [Amtrak spokesman John] Jacobsen said he is not sure the borough has authority to regulate train speeds, which are generally set by railroads in compliance with federal guidelines. I d...

Just received this in an email: The votes have been tallied for the Bangor Savings Bank Foundation 2016 Community Matters More grant program. During the month of February thousands of Mainers voted for their favorite nonprofit organizations, large and small, that make a difference in their communiti...

Oh, okay. Maybe Lucas & Co. got the idea for Leia's "cinnamon buns over the ears" from Amtrak. :-D

18-Dome car promotional diagram early/mid 70s The "Princess Leia" hairstyle on the woman in the image makes it look like post- Star Wars , which was '77. I did an Amtrip from San Antonio to Boston in '78, and another from Denver in '81, I think. Those were pretty good. I wasn't as much in...

Two empty perlite cars headed west through Warren, MP 74.47, around 10:32. Couldn't catch what the power was.

Update: CMQ 2001 (I think) went east through Waldoboro around 15:20, with what looked like a Flexi-Flo (DPCX) on the head pin.

"Live steam" is steam under pressure, as opposed to vapors merely rising from heated water. My best guess (being neither an engineer [meaning a guy with a degree, rather than a locomotive "driver"] nor a pulmonologist) about the fatal effects would be that the steam condensed due...

The terminal in Everett belongs to Ciment Quebec, not Dragon. Oh, okay. I didn't think Dragon had one there, but couldn't "confirm or deny" it because dragonproducts.com appears to have gone away. The one cement car at Tresca's last week was a car CSX apparently lost for about a month! Sh...

Thanks for the info, F-line.
I don't know how much of the westbound (interchanged with PAR at Brunswick) MERR cement traffic went to Tresca, and how much (if any) went to Dragon's terminal in Windsor, QC. It was usually good for once/week or so during "construction weather."

What the FRA should do is focus on encouraging State and local police departments to institute a vigorous program locally to educate motorists that if there isn't room for your vehicle on the far side of the crossing, stay on the near side until there is room, traffic lights notwithstanding. I thin...
