I admite the optimism. For me, this is expensive. It's $79 for OW as CHEAPEAST fare for not a high speed service, despite its name. Cheapest fares in the NEC for this type of time and distance start at half that price. Don't even talk about Europe, where a fare similar to that gets you driving time ...

Re: A Real Missed Opportunity: Lack of an AGR Portal Partner

I am confused... why can't you do anything with AGR? you can book reward trips, which is what I am precisely doing this coming Monday and have done before a number of times already :)

That would be a great springboard for additional SEPTA service and creating more stations, as is in the PennDot's study - as Amtrak would not stop at, say, Birdsboro, but if Amtrak starts going there, there may just be enough motivation and push forward to build those stations, upgrade infrastructur...

Ah, I see, makes sense now why it was somewhat quiet about it in this thread. Thanks!

Not a whole lot of information that's new on this project, but Amtrak has a dedicated page for its proposed "Reading - NYC service" which includes information on the expected time between PHL and Reading which is 1:37 - quite a lot, but understandable. They also believe 3 round trips betwe...

I think we have to think of this service as a strictly commuter service from Reading to Philadelphia, not think about options to New York. Those wanting to switch to NY can do so after leaving regional rail at 30th and going into Amtrak and/or continuing on RR to Trenton and switch to NJT. There are...

Yeah it would be nice if something was published - as of now, Amtrak.com does not have any of these changes reflected. Oh nice would it be if the 6am train would run on the weekends, too..

97 5 hours late out of NY... Philly departures board said "equipment problems". The Star (91) was also 5 hours late.

Anybody else notice some reserved trains over the holidays? This is for New Year's Day: http://i.imgur.com/8Y1iz5I.png Weird, as there has been no advisory, like for Thanksgiving. Also, not all trains are reserved, just some. This year I think was also the first year we've seen a higher fare than pe...

The Downeaster has some coaches in a backwards setup because it runs in push-pull operation (engine on each end and it can't turn consist at terminals). The Keystones change direction so hence you have coaches turned their too. But since the Vermonter is no longer doing a reverse direction at Palme...

Warsaw - Gdansk - Gdynia (160 km/h; 2h 28m to Gdansk) This route will get 200 km/h on part/most (?) of it as soon as it gets working ETCS (European Train Control System) system and certification for it. In a few years time, sections of the Warsaw - Krakow will also have their speeds increased to 23...

While I was checking schedules for this winter in Vermont... Fare code 1 has gone up for Bridgeport and Stamford going to Bellows Falls Vermont and are staying the same for New Haven. it used to be only $3 more to go to Bridgeport to Bellows falls now it is $6 more and Stamford is $19 more than New...

It probably is the holiday weekend thing. For next week on Thursday there is a bunch of $74 tickets left. Best to be flexible and be able to book 2 weeks in advance - saver fares run at $49 for this route!

I am willing to bet that drivers are subsidized the most, and government spending per driver is a lot higher than for every Amtrak passenger. That would be my guess but at this point I have nothing to back it up with. It would be interesting to find out. Keep in mind how many drivers there are in t...
