Another question about stripping paint

by bill8106 ¦  Tue Oct 20, 2015 5:19 pm ¦  Forum: Toy Trains, Model Railroading, Outdoor and Live Steam ¦  Topic: Another question about stripping paint ¦  Replies: 1 ¦  Views: 2972

I know this question has been asked at least a thousand times but now I'm stuck. I'm trying to strip Tamiya paint off of two Kato models (and it took the usual amount of elbow grease to strip the Kato-applied paint off the models in the first place). I put two coats of Tamiya on them about six month...

Thank you Mike, I had a feeling they were different but it's difficult to tell by just looking at color photos. I recently picked up a copy of Morning Sun Books' Trackside in the Albany NY Gateway, which has more photos of the experimental paint schemes than I've seen in other books and it made me a...

Passenger dark gray paint

Was the Du Pont Duco lacquer 83-23854 dark gray that was used on passenger units painted in lightning stripes the dark same gray that was used on the experimental cigar-band schemes of the early 1960's and the eventual gray with full-length cigar band scheme?

thanks in advance,

Bill

Re: How long did New York Central freight cars survive?

A few final questions; First, does anyone remember the New York Central boxcars that said "Pacemaker Services" on them, and were they among the New York Central freight cars which lasted into the Penn Central era? Also, and I realize this may be slightly off-topic, but did Penn Central ke...

Putnam Division single tracked from JS to Put Jct.

I searched the forum but couldn't find an answer to this question. I was reading a Put Division ETT from 1918 and it referenced that the line was double tracked from Nepperhan to Ardsley, and then a 1942 Harlem/Putnam ETT that said it was single tracked from JS to Put Junction. Does anyone know when...

How long was the Niagara used on the Century before it was reduced to commuter duty? That is an interesting question particularly in the 1945 to mid-1947 period when only 12 E7s (8 A's, 4 B's) were on the roster at the same time the Niagaras were being delivered. I'm not saying that brand new S's (...

Bruce, These two websites have lots of pictures of D&H RS2s and 3s. It's hard to find overhead shots but there are pictures of the no.2 end to get an idea. D&H in Color Volume 1 and Trackside in the Albany, NY Gateway (both Morning Sun Books) have some decent pictures. http://www.bridge-line...

"Torpedo Tube" GP-9s assigned to freight or passenger?

When ordered and delivered, where the Central's TT GP-9s (drsp-9a, -c, and -g) designated as "dual purpose" units or where they dedicated to the passenger/M&E power pool? I recently read a caption in a NYC picture book that described them as dual purpose. I thought they (especially sub...

H.F. Malone, you are 100% correct, that was my error. Posting Without Coffee or Someofthetimer's disease, not sure which :P . Hancock whistle is what I meant to say. Sorry to all for any confusion, this one is on me. FWIW, I note on the Fallen Flags web site pics that P&LE's RS3's while painted...

The Central operated two ten-wheelers, numbers 1290 and 1291, between St. Thomas and Courtright, Ontario until their retirement in 1956 and 1957. This wikipedia entry is fairly reliable as I've read the same information in trustworthy NYC books: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/New_York_Central_1290_and...

This may not be a definitive answer but it may provide some insight. The IC serviced the power for the Big Four's James Whitcomb Riley, which in the early/mid 1950's, was still being pulled by steam. The IC had already eliminated steam and the steam facilities by this time, so they leased E units to...
