It's been reported that the Trump transition team is considering Mica to be the
next secretary of transportation. If that happens what will happen to food
service on all Amtrak trains?
ALL E7s had steam generators. There were NO exceptions.
It always seemed to me that back in the PRR days the GG1 green was lighter and
thus more pronounced than the green applied to diesel units.
Does anyone know the number/name of the out of service VL1 sleeper?
Does anyone know if ALL the Viewliner Sleeper I's are in service or are some in long
them storage with wreck damage.
I don't know when speedometers/speed recorders were first put on steam engines. However, when I worked for the New York Central I had the pleasure of taking many cab rides in NYC diesels. Even though the engines were equipped with good speedometer/speed recorders most of the "old head" eng...
I have worried that as Viewliner 1s are taken out of service for damage, overdue overhauls that they will just be "set aside". Amtrak will then save money by replacing them with Viewliern 2s. Thus there will not really be an increase in revenue cars in service. This will be a recepi for an...
Matt,
Just go to the NJTransit schedules and you'll find all the service on the Port Jervis line.

and equally oppressive labor agreements that they had to operate under.
Two vestibules are a MUST in the NEC. Without them dwell times will be increased.
In steam days on the B&M electric locomotives pulled steam powered trains through the tunnel. The fires in the steam locos were banked to keep down smoke while the electric locos did all the work. Diesels eliminated the need for the electrics, but an exhaust fan system was installed to remove di...
The NORMAL way the "Century" was placed on track 34 was with the "Creek" car at the bumper post. I know as I rode the train several times. However, there were times when possibly due to late east bound arrivals and thus late servicing the S motor would not have time to do the run...
An S motor pulled it into GCT. The motor then ran around the train and shoved it up To the bumper post on track 34. The trackage in the terminal allowed this operation To be made. On many of the lesser trains the motor would just pull up to the bumper and "escape" after the train departed.
