CSX dispatchers (District 1 and District 2) and B&E dispatchers (District 3) are still using the same offices that were used when they were Pan Am employees. B&E has expressed interested in using the shared Iron Horse Park OCC across the street when Keolis moves North Side dispatching there....
Sounds like it happened here: https://www.google.com/maps/place/38%C2%B049'02.8%22N+94%C2%B017'53.5%22W/@38.8174331,-94.2987542,225m/data=!3m2!1e3!4b1!4m4!3m3!8m2!3d38.817432!4d-94.298191 It looks like it might be a passive railroad crossing with no lights or gates. I also don't know where a tractor...
They've been using that little remnant if the B&M Newburyport Branch for MOW staging for a long time. It is useful location for the work train to drop off and pick up materials, such as for building crossing panels or switch panels. I wouldn't be surprised if they build pieces of the new crossov...
Oak Grove being added to the Haverhill schedules is definitely just to bypass the severe speed restrictions left in place on the Orange Line from the massive amount of work that was done and continues to be done. I'm sure the reduced service on the Orange Line due to lack of subway dispatchers also ...
There are no trains that only operate between Lynn and Swampscott. Do you mean buses? Lynn is closed for demolition and eventual replacement, so they have shuttle buses set up.
For example, if a transformer needs to be offloaded in Lawrence because it can't get to Everett by rail, then the MBTA pays for the trucking between Lawrence and Everett. It's a rare occurence for a transformer to go to Everett, and the only other wide loads in the past 5 years that I can think of w...
In Sterling, MA there is an abandoned line that connected to the B&M Worcester Main at Sterling Jct and to the NH/PC/Conrail Fitchburg Secondary at Pratts Jct. Which railroad owned this line? Was its primary purpose a freight interchange, or passenger service? And if freight, why not just use th...
Gauntlet tracks have been removed from the Winchester station plans. The MBTA has opted instead to be on the hook for transload costs between Lawrence and Boston. They figure that will be both cheaper and easier in the long run than installing and maintaining gauntlet tracks or bypasses. And they're...
There's no rhyme or reason as far as I can tell. Some interlocking signals are approach-lit, some aren't. Some automatic block signals are approach-lit, some aren't. But I will say that newer installations seem to be trending towards approach-lit.
Still need a place to stage MOW equipment for maintenance, and it is always handy to have a place to kick out a crippled car.
Haven't seen LA-2 stop at either of the Tighe warehouses in quite some time. Seems that customer may now be inactive at best.
Found this older style map that more accurately shows that Littleton station is the division post: https://itineranturbanist.files.wordpre ... uthern.jpg
I'm guessing Patriot Beverage is a PAR customer, being east of CPF WL? PAR would serve it out of Ayer, which is PAS, out of convenience. So how does this all work out post-CSX? Is B&E territory going to be extended down to Tenney? Or will it still be a CSX customer?
It used to be the last Haverhill trains would always deadhead back every night. But under the current schedules, train 225 always puts away at Bradford and trains 1215 and 2215 will deadhead back to BET.
