I’m looking forward to seeing the CP return to Maine. Listening to PBS this morning I got the impression that the state was looking forward to increased use of the port facilities in Searsport. As for the BAR F3 that Dick mentioned, I hope the interested party would be based in Maine. Rode an excurs...
There is a rebuilt turntable in Philips ME on the Sandy River RR. I didn’t see any mention of the remnants of the turntable located in Swanson VT located on the site where the former CV station was relocated. Also the the pit of a B&A turntable can be found up in St. Francis ME.
The tarp for the structure that will allow the 470 to be moved under cover for the first time in decades was pulled up over the trusses today. It was a good workout for us old fellows there today. We got it done!
Work is beginning on the Union River bridge in Ellsworth Falls. My wife saw workers at the bridge earlier in the week. Since then there has been confirmation by the DSRX that work has begun on the bridge restoration. Work is expected to take five months. If all goes as planned the railroad could put...
Maybe Leverett Fernald can answer your questions regarding the Union River Bridge rehabilitation which would be the responsibility of the MDOT. A lot of work has already been done in Ellsworth Falls. A new crossing west of Sunrise Glass and a new section of track east of Sunrise Glass have been comp...
Glad you enjoyed your ride on the Downeast Scenic RR. All of us who volunteer on the railroad appreciate your positive comments. Your photos were very nice. Also, track rehabilitation is progressing in Ellsworth Falls for the future expansion of the line headed west over the Union River.
That was some good news about the 502. Just the fact that it is stored under cover is a real plus. Just look at what years sitting neglected outside did to the 470. It would be neat to see the 502 run again. Rode an excursion train pulled by it back in 1991 from Northern Maine Junction to Searsport ...
The 470 has indeed arrived at Washington Junction. The tender and the frame and drivers are now on the rails of the DESX. We all know this will be a long term project to rebuild the 470, but what an amazing start! As Dick said, "we move at the speed of money", so please consider donating t...
Dick, that NESCO has the funding in place for a shop building is truly outstanding news! What an upgrade from sitting out in elements as the 470 has had to endure for the past 50+ years. Looking forward to 470's arrival in Washington Junction in the coming year. For those who want to see the 470 sav...
It's very disappointing to read negative comments concerning the future of the 470. I know several of the men involved with the 470 and no one should question their dedication or their ability. This project will take time, but what is the alternative? Whatever NESCO does will certainly be better tha...
