Lets not forget Amtrak DID run the '46 back when they were new, they leased i believe the last 5 or 6 of them for Clocker service after the E60s were retired or sent out for rebuilding and never came back... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mMSPPwrR1ew" onclick="window.open(this.href);return...

Wow, talk about buried in the archives!!! I love venturing into those deep dark pages where things are covered in cobwebs and long forgotten screenames and people lurk! For even more fun, go to "wayback machine" and pull up the various versions of RR.net before this one!!! Some GREAT stuff...

Yes, 66, both pans are live at all times (as far as I know - must assume they are anyway) Its just that one is in contact with the wire, the other isn't. There is no chance of arc'ing with a '46 because the way to change pantographs is to raise the one that was down, so they are both up, once that ...

Max power from diesel engine - 2828MW With 6 MLs, average HEP consumption is about 300kw, sometimes higher sometimes lower, depending on temperature, if AC or heat is on, number of open cars, etc Often shows "traction horsepower" of around 4050HP on average (it fluctuates). Something does...

This is where things get a little confusing..... I can only speak for the PLs as thats what im familiar with right now, but on the various computer screens its shows real time ratings of horsepower from the engine/traction alternator. It also shows real time "traction horsepower" - Im goin...

Watching the various readings on the loco, the hardest pull out of a station is actually out of Union station on the LL going west. The loco gets to the highest tractive effort there when starting out. I don't have the track charts memorized, but from my own experience the steepest grades (other tha...

Yea, the 46's panto sits up on top, the highest point, while the 45 the panto lowers below the top of the roof. I dunno if arcing is an issue! :) The problem isnt' so much the roof line or where the pan sits when its lowered, but rather how close the pan is to the wire when its lowered. There isn't...

But NJT just spent a bazillion dollars on Dual Mode locomotives! That means they dont' need to run any new wire anywhere ever again! HAHAHAHAH (as a loco runs into Hoboken in diesel mode after changing at Broad St Newark.....)

When they are short an ALP set, they will steal 3200's train set, which arrives in NY around 200am. Also, 3800 sometimes is a push pull set. There are several trains that arrive in NYP inbetween 1245am and 2am which will go to sunnyside to yard, but if they need the equipment they will turn it and r...

I can only imagine what the rush must be like for the last trains of the night. Speaking of which, what exactly would happen if the last train of the night was canceled for some reason? The last train is never cancelled! They would cancel the second to last train and make it the last train. Or if t...
