Re: CSX Framingham, MA

Bumped. I took a closer look at these two lines (still in the same spot, going on 10 days now) and the back ends of both lines include mixed freight destined for Middleboro/Taunton customers. One car is a loaded mechanical reefer, a priority car. Those don't sit for ten days. Lucky it's cold out or ...

Two lines of brand spanking new TROX trash/C&D cars, in red paint, have been sitting in Framingham (west/receiving) yard for 5 days straight. Never saw anything except bad order singles stay more than 2 days. Are these for SEMASS? Are there delays down Middleboro way?

They have to keep the mainline, though, right? The line comes in from Smyrna and connects to Howell Wye. So the new condo owners can watch the trains roll at the back of the property?

Driving north through Portsmouth on I-95 Wednesday I saw a Guilford engine pulling a BNSF icicle reefer (doubtless from Highliner Foods) west toward the bridge under 95. Looked like two other reefers on the storage track across the street from Highliner. Tough to spot at 60mph but I know where to gl...

Anybody know the disposition of the former Tilford yard in Atlanta? I was just getting to be an occasional (3-4 times a year on business) visitor to Atlanta and Tilford/Inman watching when EHH & Co. tore down the hump. I was there in January and it was spooky to see not a single car in all of Ti...

Thanks for the info. I'm betting these are the Agar uptick traffic you mentioned.

Boston: New mechanical reefer customer?

Last few weeks I've been seeing big cuts of BNSF mechanical refrigerator cars (with the blue icicle trim) moving east of Worcester, up to six at a time. Is there a new Boston area customer? I know the grocery distribution center in Readville gets a lot of Cryo-Trans cars, but not the ARMN or BNSF re...

That's more how it used to be. I'm foggy on what goes where but almost all of those cars are on their way to/from further points, including Foxboro Terminal.

See the Pan Am Boxcar Fleet thread. Long story short, sounds like they are wasting no time selling off Pan Am boxcars to match the mill closures/downsizing. RBOXes could be covering any fleet gap short term.

A month ago I saw several old B&M blue boxcars being turned into CAIX paint scheme (boxcar brown, aka reddish brown) at Waterville. The finished cars were identifiable by the exact match of hardware to the B&Ms (ladder & door size, style, and placement).

The WRWK reporting mark is on an enormous number of railcars of all types around the continent - boxcars, intermodals, and I'm pretty sure I've seen it on lumber bulkheads as well. (I just drove around the U.S. for three months so I generalize with confidence about the continent.) These types of mar...

Not sure of the scope of the welded rail train's work, but some rail was dropped along the mainline in the west (Keefe Tech) yard. Saw the empty rail train move west Sunday night (5/24) around 9pm, same spot.

My heart goes out to those involved. I agree with a previous poster about plainly labeled speculation being part of a forum discussion. I don't think anyone should be surprised at the damage to the cars, even if the speed was lower than reported. If the locomotive sheared off a tough old catenary po...

I was always too impatient to railfan in that vicinity, especially with my experiences elsewhere in the country (Howell Wye in Atlanta being my favorite), so I would generally eschew sitting in one spot and instead drive a "sweep" from Lawrence to Lowell to the wye at north Chelmsford, and...

I lost my water (frozen pipe) in the blizzard and wound up camping out at Motel 6 Framingham, in the only room with a view (the whole building is wrapped in tarp for renovations, but it sagged below my window). I can see the Ag Branch crossing at California Ave from here, in an industrial park with ...
