This March I picked up a copy of Iron Horses of the Santa Fe Trail. There's a photo of a very interesting FT A unit on page 450. I've stated that it's really an F7Am, and don't you know that started several brouhahas with Santa Fe experts. It appears to have been rebuilt at Cleburne in late 1951 or ...

I found a photo online that shows a rebuilt FT booster unit lashed up behind the 4113. The booster has a fifth porthole at the overhang end of the unit, which is opposite of as-built practice. A rebuilt Cotton Belt FT booster has the same pattern of fifth porthole over the overhang end of the unit. ...

After a bit of research I found an answer to your question. Conrail 5678, ex-CNJ 5631, was retired August 8, 1984. It was sold to Naporano Iron & Metal on June 22, 1985, presumably for parts and scrap. See Extra 2200 South issue #83 page 11.

L&N 72."

PC 9648 was an S-2. L&N 72 was an S-1.

I'm looking for a wreck photo to determine the extent of the rebuilding. It is a very early F unit rebuild.

The EMD Service Department Locomotive Reference Data for January 1, 1959 is revealing. The B&M E7s #3804-3815 and MEC 705-708 were built on the same EMD order E670 in June 1946. The units had identical gearing and electrical plans. Each unit was equipped with a 2250 pound per hour steam generato...

Most of my research into the Cotton Belt FT units was published in the Summer 2016 edition of SP Trainline. Besides the 921 there were five other Cotton Belt FT units wrecked and rebuilt at EMD. The first wreck was at Renault, Illinois on November 16, 1948. That wreck sent an ABBA set of FTs back to...

C&O 3045, 3047,3537, 3563 and 3574 were wrecked 5/65 in Merlin, Ontario and returned to EMD for rebuilding. All outshopped as new GP35s. The 3045 and 3047 were renumbered 3583-3584. Source is X2233 note 41 of the combined C&O/B&O roster. That's the March/April issue of Extra 2200 South. ...

The first 16-645E fielded was in SD40 demonstrator #434 (serial 29025) built in July 1964. Another four SD40 demonstrators (serials 29873-29876) were built in February 1965 and the final four were built in April 1965 (serials 30499-30502).
