Re: Peru, NY (Plattsburgh) area railfan activities?

I'm visiting my in-laws in Plattsburgh this weekend. The rails and ties from the long abandoned AuSable Branch that runs to Peru and beyond are being pulled just north of the airport. From what I gather the line through Peru was abandoned in 1978. There is a nice rail trail in Peru now and an old D&...

I think the first one is the Hojack, because of the angle it crosses and the view is north. State Street runner is behind the photographer.

I think I found the answer on page 99 of William R. Gordon's "Ninety Four Years of Rochester Railways Volume 1": "(Rochester) Railway Company has secured the sanction of the Parks Commissioners for the extension of its lines into Seneca Park, and the company will now have to secure th...

BRP, I think you might be correct about the streetcar scenario. I'll have to do a little digging. I think the NYC ended passenger service on that line in 1908, unless of course they continued to serve Seneca Park. I grew up near the north end of Seneca Park, so that rail line was a big part of my ch...

I noticed that the 1920 map shows a siding coming off the NYC north of St. Paul Blvd. running NW into Seneca Park. I'm guessing this was used to bring passengers into the park. It looks like the right-of-way ran where the zoo is today. I think the zoo opened about 1930, so any remains of this siding...

I will be traveling from Plattsburgh to Rochester in November. There is a two hour layover in Schenectady where I hope to have dinner. The property in question is located at 175 Humboldt St., which is right next to the CSX mainline. Hopefully it will necessitate a rail connection. :-D

I was in Malone this past weekend. The old NYC station at Malone Junction is for sale. Up until recently it housed a doctor's office. Nice building; I hope it finds a buyer. Walked north a bit on the old NYC (Conrail) right-of-way. I tried to envision the sizeable RR yard that was once there. It's a...

The Wikipedia page states that the Charlotte runner was built by the RW&O. I believe that is incorrect and that it was built by the NYC about 1853. What became known as the State Street runner, the line the ran up the east side of the Genesee River, was built by the RW&O about 1891.
