This is the Pan Am clearance map from their website. I guess we can now assume that the tracks going towards Revere can be yellow allowing for Plate F. But for how far does anyone know? Can they access the Revere Branch? Also for the Fitchburg branch, it shows it is cleared for only about 2/3 of th...
I believe most of it is a rail trail now through Acton, Chelmsford , and Lowell. I think it ran by the old Wang buildings by Rt. 3 and the Lowell Connector. As Newpy mentioned it ended in Lowell at the wye just north of Gorham Street. Yes, that's right, it's entirely abandoned with a rail trail occ...
I wonder if they have any plans for the Fuel terminals in Revere? Am guessing there's probably a few different products that could potentially move in there by rail. There was serious talk of moving ethanol by rail into that area a few years ago but it was thwarted by local ordinances that would ha...
I'd be wary of train hoppers while out railfanning. While some could be friendly, there are also some who could be dangerous. A railfan with a smartphone, several hundred dollars worth of photo and video equipment and a nice car could be a very tempting target.
The Freight Main is a timetable construct that unifies various former B&M and Maine Central routes that are used for through freight traffic. On the B&M side, it has a long history of being the route of through freights from Portland to the west. On the former B&M, the Freight Main consi...
The Downeaster reports train service between Portland and Brunswick has been cancelled due to a disabled freight in the area of Falmouth, ME. Bus substitution to Brunswick and Freeport for all affected trains except 699, while 695 has been cancelled.
There was talk on the B&M of going even as far as Williamstown back in the late 70s after the T purchased Fitchburg to Boston, and at that time weekend excursions to the tunnel and Mechanicville and Rotterdam Jct were common and made decent time. The floors of many a state legislature in New Eng...
The Moosehead Sub. would be a snowmobile trail
The T has rights to move equipment on the Worcester Main, which is not the same as "buying" it. I think that leads to some misunderstanding of the situation. My guess is that they wouldn't be interested in purchasing it unless they had funding in place to run scheduled service over it.
It's the same old "commuters be damned" attitude that runs from the Governor's office, to the Mayor, to the T and Keolis. The advice was "to work from home" but not everyone can do that. There were business meetings and medical appointments that had been scheduled for weeks or da...
I think it should also be noted that that nearly $40 million from the sale was instrumental in pulling the B&M out of bankruptcy.
Personally I'm surprised that more spend isn't done on stations/accessibility to the train to improve the core product. I assume of course ownership over those facilities is spread out and largely out of NNEPRA's hands, but in reality the majority of Stations in Maine aside the Wells station are us...
There's one in Falmouth, Maine at MP 189.9 that announces "PAR Detector". It's relatively recent, maybe in the past two years.
8/9/18-Train 423 was cursed. 11 minutes late out of North Station due to a paperwork issue. Then at Porter Square the head end power conked out. Engineer tried to start it but was unsuccessful so rolled out to Belmont where another unsuccessful attempt was made. Back on the move with no lights or A/...
