Re: trolley freight service?

The Milwaukee Interurban had freight service. It even had a large multistory building at 940 W. St. Paul for handling the freight. The Milwaukee Interurban/Speedrail bellied up in 1951. Right afterward that building became the Aldrich Chemical Company's building until it was finally demolished just ...

Both cities have embarrassing stations today but I guess that reflects their embarrassing conditions. Isn't michigan central on the way to Toronto? A bit of RR history... The Michigan Central RR was the name given to the NY Central RR's assets in Canada and the state of Michigan. The MC depot was l...

Is it wrong of me to be suspicious of plans involving the Morouns? Had the Morouns not owned the MCT, it surely would have been razed over a decade ago. Just like numerous other run-down buildings in Detroit had been. Nearly 15 years ago, the Detroit Police Department considered rehabbing it for it...

In case anybody is interested, there was a long thread about the MCT and other topics on a Detroit forum nearly a decade ago. I posted there a few times myself, using the user name Livernoisyard.

The UWM library altered some of its map URLs recently... [Some bureaucrat likely wanted to change things for change's sake.] The CNW built a three-track N-S spur leading into Mill #1 of the cement company east of the Milwaukee River, and later built a trestle bridge across the river to connect to Mi...

Is there any discussion in Detroit about the lifespan of the DPM and whether it will be maintained or replaced with a more conventional light rail solution? The DPM will never be replaced after it expires. It has been a colossal failure over its entire 27-year existence. Its proponents predicted an...

Talgo lost in a unanimous decision by a Wisconsin-state claims board--setting up a future lawsuit in the state judicial system. Milwaukee Journal Sentinel article dated 19 May BTW, the Talgo plant hired fewer than a hundred workers at the defunct AO Smith plant near my home and school as a preteen. ...

A Sanborn insurance map for Milwaukee in 1910 shows the railroad tracks leading into and out of Mill #2 of the Milwaukee Cement Company, right at about the time it closed down its operations. The dolomite on the east side of the Milwaukee River at Mill #1 was likely mostly depleted at that time. Whe...

A SEMCOG Ann Arbor to Midtown commuter route would likely become yet another flop like the SEMTA commuter-train failure that ended some 33 years ago, which ran between the CBD in Detroit and Pontiac--now two deteriorating urban downtowns, one bankrupt and the other one getting there. Back over 30 ye...

SEMCOG last June said that MDOT contracted to lease 23 former METRA cars from the Great Lakes Central RR, and now Sterling has 24 of them up for sale . Hmmm. The state of Michigan is expecting a surplus at this time, so MDOT is under no immediate pressure to cancel its planned lease. However, the St...

I discovered a portion of abandoned railroad in Estabrook park here in Milwaukee, Wi. while geocaching (visit geocaching.com for more details)...
