So guess I'm old now, because I remember when this was put in as part of the big dig redesign of this area. The track (referred to as track 61) was intended to maintain freight rail access to the South Boston Waterfront. As far as I know there was never a revenue run down this track to the waterfron...

William F. Sullivan Jr., I believe he's an attorney in MA. He owns Sullivan Metals and Sullivan Steel in Holyoke/Worcester. They deal in scrap metal and also sell new steel for construction and other uses. I've met him personally, nice guy from what I can tell. He has a nice picture of the North Co...

On You Tube, there is supposed to be a new customer being built in East Longmeadow for CNZR. It is called Deer Park. Anyone knows about it? Also, anything in Home Depot old place? I'd love to see CNZR with more customers on both lines... The new customer in East Longmeadow is going to be one of tho...

The Cabot St crossing in Holyoke has been completely rebuilt and modernised. New crossing panels installed along with cantilever lights over the road for both directions. No gates at this time. Interchange business is steady with PVRR receiving multiple loaded lumber cars for Lowe's from Pan Am ever...

Crews are currently replacing ties on the PVRR adjacent to Lockhouse Road in Westfield.

Pan Am and PVRR interchange loaded lumber cars for Lowes RDC in Westfield. Pan Am brings in the loaded cars and PVRR returns the empties. This exchange happens once a week but I am not sure of the days.

Over the past 2 weeks I've noticed some work going on next to 291 in Springfield along the Joseph Freeman spur (branches off the B&A so I figured this is the proper place). Trees cleared, terrain leveled extending from the current spur into the Republic trash services property. Is CSX gaining a...

Using the Google Maps measurement tool the train traveled about 285ft after breaking through the bumper and coming to a rest at Regan St. That's about 650ft short of the water. Luckily he didn't hit one of the pillars supporting the Vincent Thomas Bridge or else this could have been much worse.

Ive only seen lumber cars (loaded and the returning empties) and some scrap gondolas from Sullivans. While not PVRR/Pan Am interchange traffic Pan Am grabbed a transloading deal with Republic Services of Springfield at the old Holyoke yard. Republic trucks trash containers from their Springfield fac...

Not exactly on the B&A but does anyone know what happened at the Robbins Road (Springfield) crossing on the Athol Branch last night (10/16)? The Eastman local (don't know its symbol) was parked just east of the crossing for more than 24 hours. Never seen a train lay over there before. Also, ther...

Thanks for that link, Jeff. Good ridership numbers from Hartford to New Haven but it looks like there is room for improvement on the north end of the line. bostontrainguy, yes a new siding was built there over the past 6 months or so. There was already a switch in place just east of the Old Boston Road overpass. That switch was how the Ludlow Mills were accessed from the B&A way back when and it can be seen on Google Maps. The current map does not ...

Yes, that's it. Five new tracks being built, switch still exists but the frog will have to be replaced. It's one of the special frogs that strongly favor the straight move, I think it's called a jump frog. Western Recycle's project looks to be completed as there was a string of C&D cars spotted...
