There was a small section of heavier rail installed north of Curriers. The reflecting pond received a new culvert and was drained considerably. Other culverts were replaced. A lot of ditching is being done on both sides to dry out bad sections. Nearly 2 out of 3 ties were changed out. Ballasting and...

18 is no where near close to it's service days. As long as no major issues that come up, she is ready to run for the next several seasons. I do believe that the veterans benefit train will be steam. The only planned diesel trips are murder mystery or wine/beer taster specials and a diesel days weeke...

The caboose picture was taken at the Route 39 West Main Street crossing at the PRR crossing. The train is heading North and is just clear of Main Street. The barn structures are part of the lumber property. They must have sat here for a time, as I have several pictures from this location. There was ...

The locomotive was activating the track circuit for the gates behind the station. It was stopped on cardboard to insulate it from the rails and deactivate the lights.

The ex South Buffalo #77 that was at Gowanda is privately owned and is now at Hamburg, as Chris mentioned. This locomotive has an operational block. It requires some truck work and cosmetic stuff, but could be operated.

Here is the update on motive power on the NYLE. 308 - ex Erie S1 - has been the primary locomotive out of Gowanda since it was brought down from the Port Colborne operation. 1013 - ex NW C425 - block operational, awaiting wheel change out - stored in shop 6764, 6758 - ex CN/VIA FPA4 (various models)...

Yes, the 304 did have one truck replaced. They used it in 1962 on excursions. Some time in that era the truck was changed. The cupola was removed after it arrived on the A&A, but it did have the side door. I have never heard that they added the side door after they purchased it, though I suppose...

A&A caboose 303 is an ex Susquehanna & ny. It has prr trucks under it. This one does not have the erie looks. Much more rounded roof. Caboose 304 is the ex erie 04923. Those numbers are still above the doors inside. It had erie trucks with early cast dates. I though 04 or something like that...

I believe the Erie did indeed have side door cabooses. Though, I wonder what the point of a B&H's cupola over the side door would be for. Why not just remove the cupola? Light? As for the number....there is another Erie side door caboose in Arcade, NY. It is ex Erie #04923. It does have two wind...

I should comment on the track conditions that were mentioned. Though it was not a major snow event that caused all of the problems, it was however the extreme cold and frost in the ground. It has been sometime since the area had seen such a deep frost in the ground. When the freight did slow down, t...

The next passenger season will officially open tomorrow, May 23rd. I will be there...haven't missed an opening weekend.....18 is ready as the primary motive power. Other notes: The new locomotive is still being readied for service. Several factors have extended the time that was thought to be needed...

The BSOR worked Saturday and Sunday to clear out the massive amounts of snow that fell on the Hamburg area. Sunday we were able to plow down to the north end of the line at BC Junction and clear all of the switches for interchange work. Since then the snow has quickly melted with the rains and warm ...
