All depends on where you are. To a Class I freight railroad, you're just a number - they wholeheartedly subscribe to Theory X. The Passenger side tends to treat their people well and provide them with a better lifestyle, hence the constant flow of freight guys to Amtrak or commuter agencies. Shortli...

The unit was in Buffalo today, sitting beneath Harlem Road. Was tacked onto Q268 as their second unit since their second unit coming into Buffalo was having a lot of problems.

Signed in at Olean? Tell me about that ... I didn't know about this. I can't say I've done it myself, but I've spoken with other railfans who have in the past, and they say they highly recommend against it...I can't really blame them, as all it takes is one less-than-friendly individual in the yard...

The SOO units are out here repaying Horsepower-Hours. CP gave them to BNSF for this reason, and because BNSF owes HPHs to CSX, they turned these SOO units loose out here, hence they've been bouncing around up here for several weeks now. Shoot them while you can though...pretty soon they'll be going ...

48 and 49 have been largely on time for the past few weeks that I've either caught them or heard them on the radio. When they are not on time, it is generally beyond Amtrak's control, as their delays generally have to do with the dispatching on the hosting railroad (and any problems said host's trai...

The B&P uses the Buffalo Line from Buffalo to Machias Junction, where they cut over to Ashford Junction on their own line for the run South to Salamanca, Bradford, and beyond. Their line North of Ashford Junction is out-of-service as well, and hasn't seen a train in years. The Buffalo Line betwe...

Never forget around railroad property that snow "muffles" the sound of an approaching train - especially lighter in weight passenger trains. The same can be said for a double track mainline where one train is already going by you. The crew of the other train approaching you can can sound ...

South Park Ave. is the closest public location to see trains coming over CP-DRAW. The light's really never good there, except during the longest days of summer (it's virtually North-South right here, and you're facing South [while we're on this subject, if you want to shoot Eastbound trains in Buffa...

those who are concerned with getting the perfect shot either really need to have their ego stroked or really never got the love they needed as a kid and have to compensate for it by having that perfect shot. Or... just like to do things to the best of their ability. If you're satisfied with mediocr...

So guys, don't knock RP. They don't baby anyone, but then neither does the real world. You have to make the cut in the real world in anything you do, or you get left behind. Exactly. I've been at it for just over 2 years now, and have come a long way, primarily due to Railpictures.net. It can be fr...

I don't know an exact date, however, I've seen footage that essentially showed that this bypass's first years were NYC steam's last, so that should it into the right neighborhood anyway.

Yeah, things may head South...the guy who wanted to use it for a record studio was a younger guy and friendly toward railfans (as in didn't mind us on his property there, so long as we weren't destructing anything or doing anything else that's stupid). He was actually looking for photos of the stati...
