I thought I would put to all of you a question wrapped in a recollection. Back in Dec. of 1975 (When I was all of 11 yrs.-old) my Granddad and I rode Amtrak's Silver Star to Miami. It was the most exciting trip of my lifetime up to then, and needless to say, at that age I was wound tighter than a sp...

I'm 95% sure they were SL-V's yesterday. I always look towards the station when crossing that bridge and what I saw sure looked like them. I could be wrong but I doubt it.

Saw a set of SL-V's heading into Jenkintown Station at or near 6PM outbound from the Wash. Ln. bridge today in Wyncote.

Here's the taxi co. to call: http://local.yahoo.com/info-12190508-reliable-dispatch-service-glenside They're only about 2.5 miles from the FT. Wash. station. Or, you could get off at the North Hills Stn. which is almost on top of them. I would suggest using the Ft. Wash. station to get a drink. Tone...

Wow. Those things are graceless and ugly.
Just my opinion.

Now I understand why so-called 'moderators' are supposed to keep threads on-topic.
What the hell is up politically/engineeringly/realistically with this project?
Just looking for a realistic update. That's why I come to here...

I have a Montgomery County street atlas that lists Belfry as an active station. This is where the branch crosses Rt. 73. Also, back in the early '70's Belfry had a siding where one or two boxcars would always be sitting. Back then this area was still very rural. Does anyone know how active this line...

I live within walking distance of the Jenkintown Station and would LOVE this line to re-open. Even if this took 2 hours each way, it would still be my best transportation option to NYC. The only other cost-effective way for rail service to NYC from Montgomery Co. PA is to go all the way into Center ...

I heard about this on NPR today. They had mentioned a 'gold-plated' project that was to run up the middle of Rt. 422. I had never heard of that proposal - the SVM I knew of was an electrified high speed line sharing NS' tracks to Reading. They basically said that much cheaper alternatives were possi...

I rode the Southern Crescent in 1978 and it was an all Southern train crew and equipment (except for the Amtrak GG-1 to DC). I got on the train in Philly and the Southern Ry. tickets were picked up at the Amtrak ticket window. Even though I was only 12 at the time, I remember all of it like it was y...

In 1978 I rode from Philly to Atlanta on the 'Southern Crescent'. The consist was all Southern and the engine was a GG1. The GG1 came off in D.C. and the Southern E8's took over from there. Before, and after, Amtrak this was how all the Florida trains going to NYC were handled. Also, I seem to remem...

Just wanted to say, "Thanks" to all who have posted here. I had no idea this thread would last 5 years when I started it. You all have given me a teriffic and anecdotal description of Pre-Amtrak train service. I STILL want to know what service was like in a drawing-room compartment on the ...
