Re: new L&HR book- how good is it?

Great book BUT...... a bit pricy for only a paperback. Some repeated pictures as mentioned but a lot of new ones.It makes no difference. If it is a book on L&HR I will buy it. The Tracy Antz / JIm Boyd hardcover is priced out of this world now. Glad I bought it when it was hot off the press. I remem...

Re: NS taking over part of D&H, fate of Bangor & Slateford??

I doubt that Allentwon hump will close. They do a lot of merchandise/local freight west of Allentown. The yard is usually stuffed full. Last time I was there, three jobs came in at once and went out to Steel to be humped.

Re: NS taking over part of D&H, fate of Bangor & Slateford??

Heard other rumors that empties may go back via Slateford, but like I said rumors are rumors. Either way D-L still serves a customer in Tinkertown and I believe Gravel Place. Just wondering if these cars would still come in via Portland ?

Re: NS taking over part of D&H, fate of Bangor & Slateford??

Heard the same thing. If true ,it is a sad day for railfans in the Lehigh Valley/ Pocono region. There goes my Tuesday ritual.Unfortunately I could not seem to get back up to the old DL&W from Slateford north because the D-L schedule did not coincide with mine. Hopefully they get on a schedule out o...

Re: NS taking over part of D&H, fate of Bangor & Slateford??

Conrail ran two detour coal trains to Portland via Scarnton after a bridge washed out on B&P. That was in mid '90's. Other than that I can't recall any other freight north of Analomink until DL took over in Seot. 2001. CP used to bring the grain trains to MT. Pocono via Scranton. Used to be fun watc...

Nice to see the ol' gal running. Only time I saw it move was in '99 at Ringoes when they moved it down the line to coal #60 on the ramp.

Re: NS taking over part of D&H, fate of Bangor & Slateford??

Haven't been out in a month or so but know that NS has been bringing massive trains up to D-L. Seems that all the fear-mongerers on here were WRONG. The former DL&W main is alive and well because NS is now bringing the grain trains in to Portland / Slateford and handing them off to D-L ,along with t...

Re: Fatality on NS phillipsburg

Not a week later I witnessed two teenagers walking right down the middle of the gauge on the NS main. They never learn. Worst thing I saw was a "woman" with two little kids playing in the middle of the track on the main. I told them they were not only trespassing but were risking those kids' lives. ...

Re: Black River & W. affiliate to replace M&E ops Morris Cou

I have heard rumors of track re-alignment at PU tower in P'burg in which the Washington secondary would switch off in front of the tower thereby by passing the very LOW bridge on South Main St.Then I have also heard they would lower the roadbed under that bridge. Switching moves out of Hudson would ...

Re: Raritan Valley Line Developments west of High Bridge

If these signals are still powered a malfunction could occur. I have personally witnessed the Bloomsbury gates go down and up then down and up again with no train anywhere nearby.I guess it is the CYA era this country is in nowadays that prompts signage like that. I only WISH I can see trains on the...

Re: NS taking over part of D&H, fate of Bangor & Slateford??

Rumors are just that.......RUMORS. I put about as much faith in what is on half these threads as I do the rest of the internet "facts".Thing that cracks me up is the people who start this stuff with no REAL credible facts ,just speculation ( and perhaps wishful thinking). Then when pressed by a ques...

Re: 2016 "Toys For Tots" Train

Yes, I realized that the M&E would use the HB branch after I dug out my old Hagstrom map. I will be chasing and videoing at various points. Also have some goodies to donate. :-) I used to attend the Lehigh Valley area TFT train shows until they stopped having them a few years back.Always a great tim...

Re: CNJ Southern Division

Those signs are nice but actually having trains running on the lines would be better. The spot where the Winslow Jct. station stood is now a pit filled with water-mosquito breeding ground.
