R.I.P Ray Kenny. Very good man. I remember quite a few times seeing him on the trains that I worked. Very nice to talk to, very knowledgeable about the RR. This was a true RR guy, and he will be missed. I offer my prayers to his family!

I would expect any stimulus to be used to finish phase II of the 2nd ave subway, and to upgrade present subway stations and rolling stock. I would highly doubt that any "new" projects, let alone the completion of the entire 2nd Ave subway all the way to downtown would ever be part of the p...

Re: Cuomo wants to add 8 tracks at Penn Station to increase capacity - Newsday

Whatever happened to NJT's original idea of building tracks on the north side of Penn? I remember when places were being closed on 34th street, and then Gov. Christie putting the brakes on it. After that, never heard anything from the north side of Penn again.

nyandw: Not sure if anyone answered you yet, but I kept leaning to either the PJ or OB branch as likely candidates, but wonder if this could be on the PW line, and curiously wondering about the whitestone branch which would have had a hilly profile too. I don't know much of that branch, but the area...

Somebody mentioned the LIRR above. Many commuters will not hesitate to tell you that the LIRR's best locomotives were the trusty GP38s mixed with the MP15s. So maybe a sleek and slender passenger locomotive isn't always ideal for every occasion. The guys working the AT would probably not be disappoi...

Re: A train southbound 42nd st speed

I was under the impression that the 8 ave line has a declining profile from 50th street into 42nd street where southbounds basically just let gravity do all the work, especially on the express track. I have seen some trains zoom by doing at least 50mph, which is fast in the subway.

I agree with Dutch on this. I highly doubt that any of this will ever come true, especially with MNR coming soon to Penn, I would think that MNR would be much more valuable and obviously much easier to accomplish. There still is a purpose for CSX to operate over Hell Gate, and unless that tunnel fro...

Unfortunately, and the same applies to air travel, demand dictates service. If demand drops, then Amtrak/ Airlines have to adjust the amount of seats needed to meet current demand. Unfortunately for the transportation industry, fear combined with lack luster information by the media and Government o...

I most certainly wouldn't want to take any time to actually give credit to A.O.C for this, but she did bring up a good point about this, and reality sets in that the LGA AirTrain plan is far less sensible than what the Governor thinks. At this point, even if he were to extend the AirTrain to connect...

TriRail will probably make it south past MIA at some point in the future, I think that's bound to happen. But the furthest I see it going is as far as where the museum is, and even make some sense to head a little west on the branch by Tamiami airport. South of the area around the zoo becomes a bit ...

CSX abandons lower Homestead extension

So it's official, CSX filed for abandonment of the lower portion of the Homestead extension, basically from the Gold Coast Museum south to Homestead and Florida City. This wasn't a surprise to many who know about this branch and the fact that it has been dormant for many years. With little along the...

K & K: Thank you for your post. I was eluding to this fact that the media was not willing to report on, but so that I don't put a few people in jeopardy for revealing that info early on after this accident occurred, I merely mentioned it as a possibility. -REDACTED- -REDACTED- -REDACTED-

Head-end View: you are correct, Schumer didn't say anything about PTC preventing this accident although he has made a point to bring up the topic after every rail accident occurs around the country along with other members of congress, but you have to wonder what his mind set was to conveniently inq...

Chucky Schumy wants to know whats the delay with PTC but hey, PTC won't prevent this kind of accident which is what I precisely been saying for a long while about what politicians don't understand or possibly don't care about in order to push their agenda or special interests. PTC in general would e...

Dutch: DE/DMs operate at 80 mph in electrified territory wherever there are no speed restrictions. 65mph on diesel territory, even less on the mainline east of KO. mtuandrew : Actually, what I was getting at is more in the way of, "leave it the way it is now." BUT, you have a point that ac...
