Notice the advisory has an expiration date. I learned of this advisory yesterday 02 16 2016, it had 3 location with speed restriction then, one of them was corrected and 5 were added. I don't think the expiration means that that's when the restrictions will end, rather that we can expect an update ...

DC is releasing its initial report assessing its response to the incident within the next 48 hours. http://www.nbcwashington.com/news/local/Preliminary-Timeline-Released-in-Metros-Fatal-Smoke-Incident-288681381.html This is now released: http://mayor.dc.gov/sites/default/files/dc/sites/mayormb/publ...

There's a longer 14 minute video from inside the train here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iafvfMxNxM8&feature=youtu.be" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; The operator makes repeated announcements to stay in the train and not go into the tunnel. However, he's also heard p...

The random testing mentioned by the TOC appears to be causing the most virulent reaction among riders/hangers on: “There is a list of hazards in the beginning that need to be engineered out, if possible, or they have to be mitigated — and to be sure it’s done, you have to verify,” Baryshev said in a...

Sorry to dredge this thread from the woods, but I recalled a prior discussion about rail life and this is connected. Apparently the latest cracked rail on the red line from this week was, per Metro (if you believe Stessel), on a stretch of original rail...per his words "dating back 40 years&quo...

This may end up amounting to nothing - but just placing it here for posterity: Metro's Dream Of All Eight-Car Trains May Be Derailed By Funding Challenges http://wamu.org/news/14/09/26/metro_dream_of_all_eight_car_trains_may_be_derailed_by_funding_challenges" onclick="window.open(this.href...

Word coming out today that 7Ks will not be put into revenue service by year end - delayed until early next. Lack of test track cited for the delay. http://www.nbcwashington.com/news/local/New-Metro-Rail-Cars-Wont-Debut-Til-Next-Year-274818081.html" onclick="window.open(this.href);return fa...

I would like to see the paper from that engineering study. While not the paper outright, I suspect this may be the firm/study in question. http://www.systraconsulting.com/expert-services/operations-analysis/capacity-improvements.html?systra-project=washington-metropolitan-transportation-authority-w...

The need to procure more rolling stock and/or the ability to run trains at 40 tph has been discussed time and again on this forum. For documentation sake, and because I don't recall seeing a firm rationale from WMATA, here's what AGM Lynn Bowersox had to say about 40tph. It fits nicely in this threa...

We may have evidence of new codes in use that are not on John's latest revision. Posted on twitter last night was a picture showing an OR line train destination as Deanwood. Sorry, couldn't isolate image to attach within post, but go here to view: http://pic.twitter.com/DNDt0AZbZ0 Apparently this wa...

Not ready for WMATA just yet... Sources tell WTOP that the Metropolitan Washington Airports Authority (MWAA) will announce on Monday that it does not consider the Silver Line complete, citing issues with the automatic train control circuitry and other new issues And... He's a local news reporter and has a style meant to grab viewers' attention, which can be off putting to those who understand WMATA well (like us folks here) and its challenges and recent accomplishments. Yep. He had a cardboard cutout to represent the no-show GM Sarles, which played like music to ...

He'll do the lunch chat, but I suspect odds are low he will make an appearance here at 5: Metro Intervention planned, but will WMATA come? http://www.wusa9.com/story/news/investigations/russ-ptacek/2014/01/31/wmata-metro-intervention-audio-announcements-speakers/5089191/" onclick="window.o...

Interesting sight last night and this morning: There is a 2 car train parked at the middle track at National Airport. All doors are open, but Metro has installed plastic barriers in the cars so you cannot walk down the length of the cars. All you can do is cross from one side of the platform to the...

Almost 100% sure door operation is fully manual, unless something has changed very recently. Over the summer there was a mandate for operators to wait five seconds before opening the doors at each station - a reaction to operators opening doors on the wrong side a few times. The five second rule was...
