Current service patterns are completely irrelevant to ones that don't exist yet.
Just because a car is removed from a set does not mean it's retired, or "dead". Passing speculation off as fact is prohibited.
I've heard from within the T that the 900s are slated for disposal rather than rebuild. I'd like to see them match the 700s but my opinion was not solicited.
Ahem, calendar check...
Those type of operators are more or less on a fixed schedule. Arguably, Amtrak's and the Class 1's wages are set higher to recognize the on-call nature of those jobs as well as spending time away from home. None of that is accurate. The work schedule structure is not different from other railroads.
There was a time that the north side was all 1600s and 1800s for cabs. It's not that the crews aren't familiar with 1800s, but that it makes more sense for day to day operations between different equipment be more similar.
The article also implies that Commuter Rail workers are jealous of the MBTA transit workers' contract. How does CR pay compare to similar jobs in private industry? If pay is so bad, why haven't all the employees left? Stating that the MBTA recognized and dealt with a retention problem that its priv...
Amtrak IDs will open the gate.
1600-1624 do not have their cabs. They have been plated over and controls (and associated equipment) have been removed. They are essentially 600s except for some cab vestiges (like their numbers...), unlike the 1300s which you wouldn't recognize without knowing what they are. Blind single level cars...
Every time a new Rotem control car enters service, a 1700 goes north and a 1600 gets sidelined. AFAIK none of them are retired at this time, they're stored serviceable. I suspect the decision of which goes next is relative to their blue cards. Control cars are engines in the eyes of the FRA, which i...
The path for the service is not important. NH needs to pay for the cost associated with getting service TO their stop. As far as the infrastructure goes, it's T property up to state line, track upgrades to that point are the responsibility of MA. The T doesn't need to study track upgrades. Economic,...
There will not be any additional service offered within the Commonwealth of Massachusetts. I thought you were opposed to frivolous spending.
Why should a Massachusetts agency fund a study regarding another state's rail service?
