Re: Lowell Junction

Back in the B&M days, the short stretch from the Lowell Jct area over to Tewksbury had many good customers, including Liquid Carbonic, Demoulas, Tewksbury Auto Parts, a couple warehouses/DC's (maybe Cressy Dockham & Anderson Windows), a lumber company, Gilette and either a Weyerhauser or GP...

If only the Maine Central wasn't so narrow-minded and short sighted back in the 70's, they would have realized that one day they would need to run six-axle diesels on thair little railroad.

Could be going to GE Railcar in Sayre, PA. for rebuild, that's where the rest of the recent B&M rebuild/repaints were done.

It all depends on how many CSX employees are affected by the sale. If any of them cannot exersise their seniority within a certain area, (I believe on CSX it is the "Boston Division"), they will be considered "protected". It also depends on whether the affected employees were pre...

Railroads are one thing that can't be outsourced to China, so figure in that the people who work for CSX in Framingham, Readville, Boston, Worcester, etc, don't want to take a 50% pay cut to go shortline. The unions would sue for labor protection and most definitely get it, that means G&U would ...

Got some Danner Quarry 8" Composite Toe boots. They are working out great, very comfortable with a nice thick sole, can't hardly feel the ballast. They have a broad toe so you can't notice the safety toe at all, but they are not the wierd looking "oblique" toe style. They are made in ...

So basically this project is dead. Pan Am is pulling every stunt possible to get it restarted, but Global has shown no indication of progressing or starting construction on their property. No one has spent any money on this except grass trimming. And we are all talking about railroading in the 1950...

Umm, read what I wrote. On the Fitchburg and Eastern routes, not on the branch itself. The switch to the branch is back in service, that does not mean they are going to use it yet. Yeah, I understand that, obviously I was trying to be funny, but for a long time now there has been no evidence of reb...

East Boston Branch Switch officially back in service per MBCR Bulletin Order. PAR to run crew-familiarization trips in coming weeks on Fitchburg and Eastern routes. Start-up?..... after Thanksgiving. It's amazing how fast they can slap down some track for a siding BAM! It's coming, don't know when but, like everything else (grain train, autoracks, Mechanicville, etc.) one day it just shows up.

Funny. That could not have been right after Guilford takeover of B&M though, they bought B&M in 1983 but did not start to re-number the GP-9's for Springfield Terminal until 1987.

I may be wrong, but should not the towns be directing their questions on the Ethanol train to the "T". The "T" owns all the track from Fitchburg to the switch off of the eastern route. PAS / Pan Am are the operators, the only actual Pan Am track would be the short 11 mile shove ...
