NJT Board Meetings Agenda/Minutes/etc.

I thought that it might be nice to have a thread where to discuss relevant items from future or past board meetings. It might be of use to some who might decide to attend a future meeting if the agenda includes an item of interest to them. The next meeting is this Thursday, September 12 . For that m...

Re: Bergen-Shore Express

I was not around here back then and had no idea that sometimes they ran 2 trains. Was that because they picked up lots of passengers in Newark who had come from New York? I do not see the demand for even one from the Bergen County now though. I am under the impression that over the years people have...

Re: New NJTransit Schedules Effective 9/7

Not a single change to Main Bergen or Pascack Valley Line how typical. There is some (not a lot!) hope that once NJT graduates the next three classes of engineers by next spring, the second Pascack Valley Express might resume as Metro-North pays for that train and demand seems to be there. Note als...

Re: New NJTransit Schedules Effective 9/7

A quick search reveals that the Station Village at Avenel has about 500 units (1 and 2 bedrooms). I am not sure of the numbers, but let's say that that is the equivalent of 800 adults. I could see maybe 200 of them being at least semi-regular commuters on the train. If the station has really added 1...

Re: Bergen-Shore Express

Even if there were enough engineers and equipment to run something like this the demand simply is not there to justify running this on top of the regular weekend schedule which already allows for this sort of trip (albeit at the expense of extra time to make the Secaucus connections). NJT is not (an...

Re: Virgin (fka XpressWest/DesertXpress) Las Vegas - Victorville Service

I will believe it when I see it. The new right of way in Florida is a small part of the whole route. This here is what, 200+ miles of right of way. They will need quite a few billion dollars for it and even in Florida the money has not being coming all that easily. I am afraid that if Virgin does no...

Re: New NJTransit Schedules Effective 9/7

Last weekend, I was definitely charged the extra for switching between a Northeast Corridor train and a Main Line train at Secaucus when I bought my ticket, so I am not even sure if the extra fee was ever eliminated. My destination was not Hoboken though.

Re: American Dream Opening and Expanded Meadowlands Rail Service

I believe that the loop referred to in the article is not "the Secaucus Loop" that is supposed to bring trains from Main/Bergen lines into an expanded Penn Station. The loop referred to in the article is a long forgotten proposal to continue the Meadowlands line from its terminus with a bridge over ...

Re: American Dream Opening and Expanded Meadowlands Rail Service

There is an interesting article that adds a few details beyond my knowledge Bloomberg NJ Transit also is studying an elevated train, like the $4.9 billion system under construction at the Los Angeles airport, “to provide seamless public transit” between Secaucus and the Meadowlands, Stephen Schapiro...

Re: New NJTransit Schedules Effective 9/7

This only seems to reverse the "most recent" schedule adjustments from the beginning of the summer. We shall see if they eventually reverse the other schedule adjustments that were implemented earlier due to the engineer shortage. My best guess is that RVL will not get the slot into Penn. It will mo...

Re: Acela II (Avelia Liberty): Design, Production, Delivery, Acceptance

A cafe car with no seating, seats permanently facing backwards, poorly placed seats with the view blocked by a wall . . . This is an improvement? It is all design compromises that are all reasonable. In Europe and on much of the new US commuter equipment half the seats always face backwards. While ...

Re: Virgin Rail née Brightline/AAF Orlando - Miami FL FEC

Is Dorian the first major hurricane for Virgin Rail? Their website seems to have no information on when they plan to shutdown service. Do they have enough indoor space for all the trainsets? Are some of them going to need to stay outside?

Re: Metro-North Hudson Line Penn Station Access via Empire Conne

Amtrak kept DV as single track, freight traffic is banned by the CR contract and the Wye is long gone due to lack of space. This is a Back Burner project,The Hellgate project will be easier to pull off. All true. Hudson Line Penn Access is a Metro-North project. Amtrak does not need two tracks at DV...

Re: Metro-North Hudson Line Electrification

This got me thinking why the same argument does not apply today in respect to diesels the way it applied back then in respect to steam. Why isn't it cheaper to just make use of electrics to Danbury and avoid maintaining diesels on the New Haven Line? The answer is obvious: for the foreseable future ...

Re: Amtrak Gateway Tunnels

Related, the LIRR and Amtrak are in what a source called a “stalemate” over where to relocate LIRR venting units that must be moved for Amtrak to build the final leg of a “box tunnel” to connect Penn Station with Gateway, the proposed new tunnel under the Hudson River between New York and New Jerse...
