The line did go straight at that location. Eastman Gelatine added that section of building and the railroad adjusted the line to accommodate the new building. Not sure of the date of the expansion. The line was straight into the 1960s, when I was a kid. I am guessing the 1970s was when the change ha...

I am pretty sure that CSX does not own the line...likely owned by MBTA. Permission for the bike path in Danvers was needed from MBTA as they controlled the line, even though it was freight only

I was up in the area of "Quebec Junction" yesterday, which is fairly close to Hazens. The old line still ties into the active line. There is still about 1,000 feet of intact track, with both legs of the Y that ties back to the main. I found it interesting that there has been very recent, e...

As noted on the Conway scenic thread, a baggage car is likely in the Stratford area, which will be interchanged for delivery to Hazens and Conway Scenic at some point. If anyone gets a heads up on the timing of the possible move, please let us know. Thanks!

My hunch is that the track from Salem to Peabody, once the plant closes, will immediately be placed out of service. Sad to have seen go from busy in the 1960s to what it is today. I had hoped that maybe there would be a new customer at the Industrial park at the end of the line to save the line. Steve

Wow, that would be something if they came to the Peabody/Salem area! In 2015 PanAm did some minimal rehab work on this line to Peabody in order to get the acid deliveries back via rail. Here is a link to my web page where I posted a few of the shots: https://www.stephendelaneyphotography.com/2760918...

I had understood that the load numbers to Rousellot were much more than they were to eastman Gelatine. They had also received a grant for additional track area for storage on the property...not sure where that stands. Why wouldn't CSX continue? They don't pay any of the track maintenance between Bos...

I have not seen a photo of a yard, but I have a photo of the old station at the junction that I got at a train show. It was likely at the location of the diamond, the remnants of which were still in the weeds several years ago. I looked through Ron Karr's Lost Railroads of New England and his other ...

Pretty interesting trek! Thanks for posting. Where were the boxcars, and where is the bridge with the rails still in place? Thanks!

At Depot Road yesterday. Tough to get a good shot of the old station as the foliage is really filling in. Getting the shots of the "old" locos while I can...wonder what the next units will look like. As usual, great crew as they obliged all the kids at the science center by giving them a f...
