I've seen these for years and wondered, what do these devices mounted between the rails do?

When the agreement was signed in 2013, RMLI's commitment was $900,000. Strasburg, knowing that fund raising can take a long time and costs increase, built in an annual increase of 5% a year. Hopefully RMLI can come up with the funding as I believe that is the best chance to see an LIRR locomotive in...

RMLI needs to raise about $600,000 more and OBRM less than that, to achieve their current goals for the G5's. If 600 people gave $1,000 each, RMLI would be there. Richard, where is the $600,000 figure coming from? As of 2022. RMLI would have to send Strasburg just under $1.4 million. The last total...

if you go to https://www.historicaerials.com/viewer and enter 40.73043660417917, -73.57942951392981 as the coordinates, and choose the 1966 aerial photo, you can see the locomotive and pad it sat on very close to where mkm4 showed it.

I'll stick with my original estimate, and I'll wager a Maxiburger that's the curve south of Glen Cove, south of Duck Pond Road, and that's Pearsall Ave adjacent to it. While it does look quite a bit like that location, I'm going to disagree. The land on the inside of the curve slopes down significa...

It would appear #1 is in front of it; where was #1 stored before eventually being scrapped? But also it's probably pre-2000 or so because after that the garden city team yard got paved over. This picture was taken just after I finished lettering it, I would guess 1996. The car next to it is one of ...

Why would a n LIRR caboose be painted in Chessie system colors and logo? I think you've been "had". I also believe the cabooses stored for eventual inclusion at OBRM were vandalized so badly, they too, were cut up. @2 was a real loss, being a steel ex-PRR design and a rare bird on the LIR...

How do these escalators compare lengthwise to the Subway ones at 53rd & Lex.? What safety systems are in place there?

there was no way we could sufficiently fundraise for the locomotive in the short amount of time given. This should be the takeaway from this situation. If a LI group wants to preserve a C-420, they should talk to the owners of the existing units, express interest and see if ballpark price can be ob...

Work the problem, Neil. Even if it never sees the LIRR again, it can be displayed in Long Island paint. A LIRR diesel wouldn’t be in the collection policy of most museums off of Long Island. The only possible exception might be a nationally focused museum but realistically a C-420 isn’t likely to s...
