RS40 came by NASSAU Saturday morning with several centerbeams and a boxcar, a 15 on each end. Would assume they were heading up that way...

Train 190 makes a Valley Stream stop en route to Babylon, it's the only one that I'm aware of.

To all who are interested, Today marked the official release of former LIRR engineer Mark Smith's book, entitled "My Life on the LIRR: Memories of a Steam Locomotive Engineer" The book contains a pretty interesting selection of stories from Mark's 30+ year tenure on the Railroad, ranging f...

The whistle was put on #475 last Friday, and it ran for a week, before the locomotive was taken out of service for its monthly inspection. Whether they keep it on longer remains to be seen, but I can say that the guys down there had a really good time with it. On our end, we publicly announced (in S...

The New Highway crossing in Farmingdale is a pretty good place to catch some action after about 9 PM on weeknights. On the east side is Coastal Distribution, which ships out C&D, and on the west side is Posillico which brings in stone loads. Coastal's served just about every night, the stone del...

Re: West Switch at Pine-Aire DEF Being Re-installed?

The west end switch to the DEF actually comes off the Pilgrim spur, not the main itself. The switch off the main to Pilgrim is indeed there, the connection to the DEF isn't.

To my knowledge, Bay Shore has never been served by NY&A. The siding, which is only accessible from the west end and therefore not the easiest to switch, is used by MOW equipment. I've seen the Sperry car on there, as well as gondola loads of ties and other track maintainence stuff. Anyone know ...

Was in the area earlier this evening, and noticed there was a lot of construction activity around the Main St crossing. MTA police had several streets in the vicinity blocked off, though trains were still running as usual. Upon further inspection, it looks like the entire crossing has been taken out...

It's hard to give specific times, but they do follow a general pattern. If you want daytime action, the RS40 is pretty reliable. It runs the Central Branch late morning/early afternoon, and switches Wellwood Siding and a couple of customers (stone, garbage, etc) south of Sunrise Highway. A good plac...
