Re: Green Line Type 9 Thread

It's almost 2019 and the T is still using those clunky metal advertising racks. :(

According to the last slide of the PowerPoint presentation it looks like these new units will be trucked from Springfield to the Wellington Facility. I thought CSX would ship them since they have a spur that leads directly into CRRC's facility in Springfield. That being said I have noticed that the...

I don't understand why the "T" passed over the feddybucks. I thought all rolling stock and most buses were purchased with some sort of federal funding. I guarantee you that the MBTA did not pass on any Federal funding. There is a pot of money they get, it doesn't necessarily get split amo...

The 01500-series cars were presumably ordered as single units because off-peak ridership on the South Shore line was uncertain, given that more than a decade had passed after the closure of Old Colony commuter rail service. To my knowledge they never operated as single cars in revenue service. The P...

Man, that front end is even uglier than the drawings. Makes the Type 8 look decent by comparison.

Saw an eastbound train passing the Hinsdale Road crossing in Camillus the other day with a Finger Lakes boxcar painted in a version of the red and silver New York Central 'Pacemaker' scheme. Anyone know if this car a one-off or will there be more?

So 3686 takes the prize as the very last original-paint unit left in service. Get your photos while you can. Kudos to K-S for building such dependable cars, but I've refused to photograph rustbuckets like 3686 for the last few years. I have plenty of images of Type 7's in the original scheme before...

I see the Camillus and Solvay end of the line but rarely venture west. 3301-3303 were on the Geneva-Solvay turn yesterday, and 2305 was working the Solvay switcher last week.

The $3.8 million estimate was complete garbage that I suspect the author knew was misleading, but it made for a great attention-grabbing headline.

One of the real shames of the Boeing LRV saga was that Boston was never supposed to be the guinea pig. San Francisco was supposed to receive their fleet first, but delays in building the Muni Metro and the ongoing deterioration of the MBTA's PCC fleet led to the two cities flipping the delivery orde...

Bump.

Nothing new on the FGLK?

Now, of course, we all just have to hope the CRRC cars aren't junk. That's a very big deal, because if these things don't work, it will be a generation or more until we again have a reliable rapid transit system in Boston. That, or the T had better have a bulletproof exit clause (and someone like B...

I did some additional research and found out that the Type 9 will feature CAF IGBT propulsion. This will be the third project to use CAF propulsion in the United States, after Cincinnati and Kansas City. Previously, CAF outsourced their propulsion to Alstom, Bombardier, Siemens, Mitsubishi, or othe...

The MBTA needs to take a serious look at this situation and learn from it. Blaming the passengers is ridiculous - the T utterly failed to properly take control of a dangerous situation. Passengers were left to their own devices and reacted predictably. Perhaps there should be some sort of key contro...

The MBTA never did a midlife overhaul the #12 fleet. Are the propulsion system and other key components of these still original equipment and only replaced when they fail, or have these systems been updated on the entire fleet without the full car rebuild?
