Re: Victorville to Las Vegas

A two-seat ride is preferable if it saves many billions of dollars. Just make sure the transfer is as painless as possible and is it possible to synchronize the schedules? (I haven't fully read up on these CA projects).

Re: Virgin Rail née Brightline/AAF Orlando - Miami FL FEC

....Surprisingly, a showman affiliated with a railroad is not new. For years, Billy Rose held a seat on the New York Central's Board. (Central fans around here like Otto, did you know that?)... Hmm...Holding Virgin Rail USA stock (is that what it is called, I can't keep up) in 2019 is probably smar...

Re: The Flying Yankee

I don't see running it pull-pull (locomotive attached to the back) as detracting. Do the seats flip? Otherwise you'd have to ride backwards half the way, but that's better than not running at all. Heck, you could start out running it de-powered with a locomotive on each end by adding power HEP cable...

So the meal was partially frozen but you were still happy that they were "on top of their game?" Sounds like they lowered your expectations, then met them!

I assumed a cheese omelette wasn't kosher, but apparently it is.

Re: Amtrak Branding NEC: Acela, Metroliner, Regional

I was talking about the New York and New England Railroad's "crack" train from the turn of the previous century "The New England Limited", not the New York Central's "The New England States". Sorry for the confusion.

It's difficult for volunteer & charitable groups to maintain enthusiasm over decades, without self-dealing or incompetence creeping in.

Doesn't the Illinois Railroad Museum have a similar streamliner that is operating?

Re: Grafton & Upton Railroad (G&U) Discussion

Correct me if I'm wrong but federal laws give railroads the right to take land by eminent domain but allows each state to manage how that is done correct? ... I'm assuming the railroad has a state charter that allows eminent domain. Just like the electric company, Verizon or Columbia Gas. I don't s...

Re: Amtrak Branding NEC: Acela, Metroliner, Regional

I suggest keeping to traditional railroad theme schemes; Locals for all stoppers Limiteds for limited stoppers Express for non stoppers Why reinvent something the entire world knows? I thought Express was better than Local and Limited was very, very few stops and best speed, like 20th Century Limit...

Re: Amtrak Branding NEC: Acela, Metroliner, Regional

For the new non-stop WAS/NYP, why not call it The Congressional . For the new non-stop BOS/NYP, why not call it The Senator . The Congressional or The Senator both sound very corrupt, incompetent and wasteful. And slow to reach their destination. Also the US Senate doesn't meet in NY or Boston. Met...

Again, the RDC can have it's own ohmmeter that tests the resistance or impedance and sends an alarm or sets a penalty if necessary. If the tracks have leaves on them (or pollen or dirt) the car may not be detected. Road salt or rain could cause false positive.

In order to get the discount at Big Y I think you have to buy the ticket before it opens, which is today, so you may have to pay the $15 instead of $12. Call your local store & ask.

Re: Acela II (Avelia Liberty): Design, Production, Delivery, Acceptance

If you had everything really automated, (trainline? doors, all high-level boarding, assigned seating w/LCD screens, perhaps separate call buttons for regular & urgent needs, <1% sale of tickets on-board, etc), you boil down the conductors work to the safety elements: Is someone stuck in the doorway ...

Re: Viewliner II Delivery/Production

It should be possible to add extra brushes or wheels to cars to establish whatever impedance is desired, and have the vehicle detect continuity faults & send alarms to the cab, dispatch and PTC computer.
