I traveled from New Haven to Boston yesterday and was looking forward to trying this new feature out. When I boarded at New Haven though, the car attendant asked for my name, found it on her handheld device and checked me in. When the conductor passed through he informed me that I was all set. On my...

I was visiting Boston yesterday and was curious about how Green Line service was operating in the subway. E Trains are running the full route between Medford / Tufts and Heath Street. D service is being operated (on the northern end) between Union Square and Government Center, utilizing the Brattle ...

Then as the heavy industries closed or moved out things really went to hell fast. Take a ride through the various neighborhoods in Waterbury and you will find some very nice areas to live in that are still decent. The floods in 1955 caused a lot of damage and problems but the biggest hit wasn't the...

I happened to attend the CT Commuter Rail Council meeting Wednesday evening in Derby. This meeting was (according to Council members) the highest in attendance that they could remember. Passengers from all towns served by the branch were in attendance, as well as several local politicians and repres...

Good news for those who have to go. The FRA will allow one restroom on each Hartford Line train to be unlocked, starting Monday. The reason given is the same as the original decision to lock them, complaints filed by people with disabilities. Link to Harford Courant article: http://www.courant.com/b...

Here is a video clip I made while passing the disabled train last evening. The pantograph on 9300 was torn off. This train was short turning at South Norwalk due to the Walk bridge failure. As you can see, the train stopped just west of the Washington Street bridge, fouling the crossovers between tr...

OK, I admit that a set of M-8's sitting on track 12 at New Haven Union Station on a Sunday morning is not an unusual sight, but the assignment was. Due to mechanical issues with NJT equipment, this set departed New Haven as train 3137, the Meadowlands train, with the destination signs reading New Ro...

Here is a link for GCT departures, showing track assignments. As I type this, the information shows (as Kurt stated) that Harlem line departures are operating from the lower level, while New Haven and Hudson line trains are on the upper level (New Haven line using the 20's tracks and Hudson line usi...

Rumor has it, good old Blumenthal was supposed to grace this meeting with his presence so now I'd love to know what transpired. First the good news, Blumenthal was a no-show. This meeting was calmer than some of the previous ones. CDOT commissioner Jim Redeker did most of the talking, touting the s...

I rode train #6542 yesterday, which makes the connection at Devon (I did not transfer there, though). Some observations: There was at least one paper sign posted at GCT by the platform doors indicating the transfer point. The conductor made numerous announcements before and after departing Grand Cen...

Took train #6925 from Waterbury to Bridgeport this morning - ran right on the money - but things went downhill from there. Connecting train #6425 from New Haven arrived at Bridgeport and was cancelled at that point. An announcement was made that due to wire damage further down the line, the number o...
