I have been stopping by Readville to watch trains since the days of the I-5 Shoreliners and the Comet. There may have been exceptions that I missed, but in all that time I never saw that platform used for regular scheduled service.

Requiring riders from Needham and beyond to change to the OL at Forest Hills will result in two things: disappearance of Needham branch service and a whole lot more cars on the road. After the comparative luxury of commuter rail, outer suburb Needham folks are not going to take kindly to squeezing i...

And I’ll bet the new Bourne stop on the Cape side had a lot to do with it.

YES! That’s the picture I saw in the F-C office.

The present day white building by the buried ghost track was the headquarters of Fisher-Churchill, a coal/fuel oil dealer. I seem to recall a pair of raised fuel oil tanks at the end of the building. Fisher-Churchill is still in business in a small cinderblock building in East Dedham - they installe...

Looks like a single trolley track ran right through the traffic circle. Either that or they reserved an easement through the new circle for a track just in case the trolley line was reactivated - there does not appear to be any track there. Until a couple of years ago you could still see (and feel) ...

I have been trying to find the exact location where the Dedham Branch crossed Mother Brook, hoping to find the remains of an abutment or metal pieces. If it was a simple wooden trestle I guess no physical evidence would remain. I have walked beside the waterway as it is next to the parking lot of th...

I guess a mini-high is ok as a start to determine the how many riders will use this new location, especially as a connection for buses to Woods Hole and the Vineyard. If it proves popular, there may be a significant increase in dwell time with all those passengers exiting a single set of doors. This...

What’s the story regarding the new Flyer stop on the Cape side of the Canal? New high platform constructed? Will connecting bus service to Woods Hole be relocated here from Buzzards Bay? As this could be a major improvement, surprised there has been no discussion about this. Is it possible it’s happ...

Thanx Mr. Norman for the Flamingo link - guess I'm a few years too late for that convenient service. And my final leg driver was only 8 years old and in still in New Haven territory when the Flamingo vanished. Does any freight pass through Cynthiana these days? Maybe I could ride the rods.

Thanks, guys, for all your thoughts and advice. You introduced a number of points that I had not considered, like the desireability, or lack of, of debarking in the wee hours at non-staffed stations while my ride to Cythiana may still be miles away. I'll take it from there, but it looks like the Car...

That was the Charles River Loop. It was repaved a year or two ago but part of one rail is still visible. Interestingly the Charles River buses are now signed for CHARLES RIVER LOOP. Previously all streetcars, TTs and buses on that run were signed simply CHARLES RIVER. As of the late 1940's the doubl...

Thanks, guys - it will be Option 1. Not much decent dining on the trains anymore.
