203 was at 14th Street yesterday on a SWS set. Don’t know when it moved over there. Furthering the theory that all of the Winnebagos could ultimately be moved to the BNSF/SWS pool. 191 had a failure recently in which 208 coupled to 8 cars had to pull its consist along with 191 which was coupled to ...

The study area for the extension does not include Aurora. My guess it would stay as-is, and trains traveling west would by-pass Aurora. We are only talking about 2-6 round trips.

Check out the link for more detailed info is posted including renderings of proposed stations.

I know their options were limited after Nippon Sharyo closed up shop. That said, I would not have been surprised to see Metra simply biding their time until Caltrain started running their new Stadler equipment once the electrification comes online. Then Metra would have just gobbled up some of Calt...

NICTD is expected to enter into a lease agreement for Metra's 26 HL1 (2004-2006) Highliners. They will be rehabbed by Metra for NICTD. Lease term is 15 years.

The number of DOB's and bulletins to be entered into PTC also depends on the territory being ran on. For instance, Metra Rock Island only have a Metra DOB to enter while trains on SWS have to enter Metra, Amtrak, NS, and BRC. Each railroad controls their own PTC portion, so if one doesn't load they ...

For those who have not heard: Back in town are the final F40Ms, 195 and 213. With that said, this rebuild program is now officially over. I am curious about which locomotives Metra may consider rebuilding next. Any and all plans will undoubtedly be delayed as a result of this pandemic. 100-149 are ...

Caltrain Storage/Equipment Moves

I’ve got a few questions for those who know Caltrain operations. Appreciate any input! 1. Where does Caltrain store trains overnight, and how many at each location? Looking at the schedule, I can guess 3 sets are stored in Gilroy, but besides that? 2. Does Caltrain run any deadhead equipment moves o...

Also, 207 had a pretty major mechanical problem on train 419 during the evening rush. It died out at 35th Street and couldn't be restarted. Passengers were transferred to a different train which was pulled by 202. On Monday train #530 also died at 35th Street... with 202. Train was cancelled, passe...

They are still being stored at Western Avenue Yard, however Amtrak no longer wanted them using Track 28/30. In early December they went back to using track 16, requiring them to wait on the south side until the track becomes available.

I don't think much has been done with the bridges above the expressway since they were lifted into place, but progress is still being made despite the cold weather. Last week bridges above the NS were lifted in place. Most of the focus now is on the embankment to fit the new alignment. Also on the R...

I don't know the number of old Highliners still in service, however the new units should be into the 1300's by next month. Should be at the point where new equipment is the majority.
