Thanks to both of you.
That's exactly what I was looking for. Hope you don't mind if I use some of this in a video description.

What are the main differences, mechanically, between an SD50 and an SD40-2? I just recently shot some drone video of trains that had one of each and noticed that the hood on the 40 is much shorter than on the 50. I know the 50's had major problems after they were introduced, but were saved via a mod...
Here's some action I caught on the CSX last week near Zephyrhills, FL.

I'm planning a trip to Niagra Falls and hope to get in some railfanning while there.
I'm having trouble finding scanner frequencies for CSX and NS through that territory. Does anyone have a current radio list they could give me?
Thanks,

Here's a video I put together using footage from a friend that he shot back in 1988.
it shows how Amtrak joined the West and East Coast sections of it's Silver Meteor.

Tracks already run from the Palmetto sub into the Big Bend Plant. Mosaic and Kinder Morgan have transloading facilities at the Big Bend docks. TECO has tracks that run into the power plant, but I don't know how they unload coal there, where it's via shaker or dumper. It will be nice to have coal tra...
In my opinion, Folkston has always been the best train watching spot in the south, certainly in Florida. (Yes, I know, but Folkston really OUGHT to be in Florida. :-))) IN the 90's even before the platform and the wireless internet and the scanners, Folkston was fantastic. The saying among those of u...
The whole discussion of commuter rail in Florida is based on moving driving populations off I-4. Well it's a great notion, IF we can get development to center around the terminals of this railroad. If that happens, commuter rail is likely to gain some success. But to those who say "Florida is n...
Saturday morning I watched as CSX brought a unit train of ethanol for interchange to the Florida Central at Winter Haven.

A couple of observations here. If you go from Orlando to Winter Park to catch a train to Tampa, then time and convenience are not factors in your trip. If you object to riding an Amtrak Thruway Bus for one leg then, again, time and convenience don't enter into it. I've found AmBusses to be quite nic...

They tried an intrastate service with the Tampa - Miami Silver Palm a few years back. Terribly unpopular. I doubt if there's much originating traffic in Jax headed to Miami or vice versa. Plus, the CSX does pretty well getting Amtrak over the road on-time. The FEC surely could handle an occasional d...
FEC is a perfect choice to host Amtrak service with it's excellent track structure and straight route to Miami. Plus, the line is an absolute ghost town in daylight as FEC runs freight traffic primarily at night. My big complaint is the potential draining of service from the rest of Florida. Amtrak ...
