Some interesting snippets from the press announcement about this: This is an add-on to an existing order from another operator (Via? Amtrak? someone else?). New stops confirmed for Langstaff and Gormley. Interesting possible tie-in with GO Transit and/or possible diversionary route, following the ro...

"The train service is so bad there because the ridership is so bad there."
Alternatively, the ridership is so bad there because the service is so bad there. Which came first, the chicken or the egg?

As reported by the BayToday newspaper (https://www.baytoday.ca/local-news/northlander-departs-pre-dawn-for-test-run-to-to-4784374), on Monday 22nd November ONTC operated a trial run of the Northlander between North Bay and Toronto. ONTC spokesperson says "We are validating transit times and eva...

For numbering of days of the week, see https://www.timeanddate.com/date/week-numbers.html Specifically: "There are at least six different week numbering systems currently in use around the world. The most common is the International Standard ISO 8601, where Monday is the first day of the week f...

I don't think so. Sudbury to White River is CP mainline. Huron Central is Sudbury to Sault Ste Marie.

Were traps not used to make wheelchair access easier? I recall seeing a wheel chair lift being used to directly load a wheel chair into the car.

Compare the locomotive paint job with the newly refurbished passenger cars for the Polar Bear Express: http://www.trainweb.org/oldtimetrains/photos/onr/four.htm" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; Photographs 11-17 in that collection seem to show the same blue colour. Maybe that...

Where will the reversing occur? I'm not aware that Amtrak's Maple Leaf has to reverse anywhere on its route between Niagara Falls and Toronto, which I assumed was a straight run from Niagara Falls through Hamilton West Harbour to Aldershot (although I could be wrong).

End-to-end, the new schedule is not too bad, with many trains arriving in Toronto or Vancouver on-time or early. Intermediate trips are much less predictable and therefore unreliable. The big problems seems to be between Winnipeg and Jasper, where CN can turn an on-time Canadian into an hours-late C...

The motels in White River are mostly on or near the TransCanada Highway (Hwy 17). I have stayed at the Continental Motel - not luxury, but perfectly acceptable for a highway motel, and with a decent restaurant too. It's a bit of a hike from White River station - maybe about 700m.

Was visiting the Milton, ON area recently and wondered how much traffic there is for photographing on CN's Halton subdivision. Is it worth it for a proper photo visit? Thanks for any info!

I believe it's still (theoretically) possible to obtain compliant DMUs from American Railcar (née Colorado Railcar).

Question for those "in the know": what is CN's attitude to private cars on its tracks in the US? Can't imagine they'd have a different view between the two countries.
