Re: Wabtec's BPL: Not an ordinary electric

Shouldn't this has been posted in the GE forums? Wabtec bought the GE locomotive division, not EMD's.

I rode the C3's a few ties. They are very comfortable, and quieter than the MU's.

Interesting, but my question is this: Is there enough business for another "rail" line between these two cities, considering that there already is Amtrak (yes, I know not too many people take Amtrak for such a short trip), TriRail, and Virgin Train (BirghtLine). Maybe if the monorail line ...

I don't think that the hobby is dying. But I do feel that these forums are dying. I've been part of these forums for years. There seems t be less and less new content in the various topics in the Railroad.net forums.

Apparently the problem with the Hyundai-Rotem cab cars has been resolved, as the leading BL36's have been removed from the north end of the trains.

Neither. Those are speed recorders, used for wheelslip control circuits. Some diesel and electrics had them on each axle, usually on one side of the engine, others only had a single one, usually underneath the cab.

I just read the following on the Northwest Short Line Facebook page: This is the post I don’t want to make but the time has come. I just can’t do this without Lynda. Following is the notice I sent to all the magazines. ======= After 60 years in business, NWSL will cease operations effective August 3...

Congratulations Otto, and best of luck. I saw the announcement on Facebook.

I noticed last night that Tri-Rail is running its trains which have the Hyundai-Rotem cars with a BL36PH on the north end in front of the cab cars. I understand that the problem is that there are issues with the pilots on the cab cars, so they are running a lead BL36PH on the north end in front of t...

I might be wrong, but I believe that CN re-engined four FPA-3 with 251 engines, and then used the four 244 engines in the four RSC-24 units.

I'm curious as to why they never designed the M-1 through M-9 with diaphragms on the cab ends of the cars. Considering that the C-3 cab cars have diaphragms and the amount of between car traffic you would think they would have them on the MU's.

CarterB-- Thanks for the comprehensive (and very quick!) answers! I'llhave to compare the photo of 8329 you linked (thanks!) to other photos of H6 to see if they hint at the special equipment these two Madison Hill assigned locomotives had. -- If two H6 consolidations could handle the traffic, wasn...

That's good news! Though crude in comparison to the New York Central's Niagaras (Grin!), the 2900s were a good example of the final flowering of American big steam designs: ATSF's last new steam, and one of BLW's final efforts(*). They were (all? most? some?) oil fired. My guess is that, tank truck...

MetroNorth M-3's at Arch Street

I've noticed that there are some MetroNorth M-3's at Arch Street. Are these being prepared for disposal like the LIRR M-3's?
