ACS-64 #601 I would say is beyond repair. I did get a chance to see this motor up close and it was pretty badly wrecked. I believe there's a report out there that even has it "written off." The #627 looks like it could be fixed, but the front impact into the MOW was pretty extreme. Disclai...

VIA's website has a list of what trains (and where) operate with the new Siemens train sets. It's on their website - or in their website somewhere. I did see it. Quite impressive in the amount of train sets in service!

Those are good remembrances, believe me...... I sold my vacation house in Worcester County, MD as the trip through Delaware was getting absolutely CRAZY, even with the new expressway Route 1. Mr. Norman, you'd probably never recognize the Delaware region these days........I do the "remember whe...

Should the portion of the route from Wilmington/Newark to Dover be electrified, to allow for through services from Dover to Philly? I'm curious to know how many of the throngs of cars fighting their way down I-95 and I-495, to US 13 and DE 1 are coming from the parts of Philly served by SEPTA, and ...

The idea is to get train service to the Eastern Shore of Maryland - either Salisbury or Berlin, MD - south of Dover. The only major north-south divided highway is Del DOT Route 1 to Dover, which is a practically a parking lot in summer time getting to the shore points. South of Dover, it's all stop ...

Not bad - that looks pretty good - even a step up from the last menu that they had rolled out for the first time with this partnership. I hope it works, as I feel Amtrak Acela First Class meals were on the decline again - compared to where we were in the early 2000’s both with Metroliner First Class...

As I understand it, in addition to other things, it's a weight balancing matter/issue that also has to be mastered. Gotta get the right formula. Amtrak "got it" when they made the F40s into cab cars and cabbages. Very smart! But they gutted and took out the engine parts, for lack of better...

Was on the Lake Shore Limited westbound last week. Had a pleasant ride and we arrived about 20 minutes early. I enjoyed being able to sit in the "sleeper/lounge" (aka Viewliner II Diner) post-dinner to get some work done for the evening. I did tell the attendant that I was more than happy ...

I would think that Amtrak did keep the parts for the HHP8's - if useful for the Acela Express power units - being there's a delay with the Avelia train sets. Moreover, Amtrak has already sidelined two Acela Express train sets and began gutting them for parts.......

This should be a nice piece of railway between Freehold and Farmingdale when completed - new fully protected grade crossings etc. Yes, freight is the main priority and reason for the season, but it’d be SO nice to see some community good will with perhaps a special Holiday Weekend train for Christma...

Hopefully the change is for the better, as First Class Acela Express meal service has been on a roller coaster in recent years, but largely in the valley, as far as I am concerned - not as good as it used to be from the 2000’s.

So are they planning to do: A) A southernly leg of a “Y” in between Southard and Railroad Ave so as to do a “direct” access from the PRR ROW into the old CNJ Southern - so as to avoid a reverse move on the old Southern CNJ main? Or B) Just use the existing track/ROW (what would be the north side of ...

Wouldn’t it be nice to see THAT run again on a portion of this line? Even if also in excursion service. Get the rail line connected/restored from Jamesburg to Farmingdale and may a Santa Express of some sort…..I got a few nostalgic pictures as well of the Jersey Central’s RDC’s tribute to the Blue C...

For what it is worth, it's interesting that the passenger rail business took the road to nationalization in 1971, while the freight railroads, at the same time Amtrak was being formed, were vehemently trying to avoid nationalization. Even the bankruptcy trustees of the Penn Central and other northea...
