Re: M-8 Cars

I saw the trainset in GCT yesterday around lunchtime. They were doing tests down on Track 12. The train looks nice and new, I like how they put the red-orange stripe down the side. The corners look very boxy, though, with a weld going down the edge. Nice looking interior, large windows that are goin...

Nice story, Tommy. Thanks for sharing it.

A simple question. What is the minimum overhead clearance between New Rochelle and New Haven?

How about between New Rochelle and NYP?

Just asking, is all.

according to Gov. Rell, and an article in the Conn. Post: http://www.connpost.com/breakingnews/ci_8315672 "The majority of the original building, which is located in the Southport Historic District, appears to be in good, sound condition," Rell said in a statement released today. "Muc...

I just came across the brochure handed out on the first run of the M@ "Cosmopolitans" in April, 1973. Thought you guys might get a kick out of it: http://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa266/cepey/Cosmo1.jpg http://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa266/cepey/Cosmo3.jpg http://i199.photobucket.com...

Any comments welcome, most of this is culled from this group: End of the Line for FL-9s – Really, this time. Even though Metro-North RR ran a “Farewell to the FL-9” fantrip in October, 2005, the last New Haven diesels in mainline service remained active on M-N’s roster as backup power. The FL-9s wer...

Just finished the book. Great Job! The only question I had was why include the section on the NH electrification? I understand how the Cos Cob Plant is gone, etc., but it seems a lot more people remember it than, say, the NYW&B.

I thought the article was a pretty good piece, and it is nice to see local newspapers giving some attention to an historic anniversary. The second part of the article is here:

In light of the relative dearth of M-N models in O gauge, I think we should be thankful this is being made at all. Even with the traditional "O" issues, like large flanged wheels and enormous gaps between cars, this set should do well in sales, esp. in the metropolitan NY area.

The original owner of the NH branch of M-N was of course the New Haven Railroad, which was known in some circles as just a large collection of yards. Some other now-gone yards were located at Mt. Vernon (East), Port Chester, Byram, Bridgeport, etc. The full list is much longer.

Passengers may not be as smart as you like, Dutch, but I agree with those who wish there were monitors with track info on the platforms at Stamford. I've frequently had to go up into the station to figure out where the train I was expecting was departing from. If you arrive a few minutes early, you ...

It's a shame that the Mamaroneck station is in disuse and bad repair. FWIW, the ownership of the station will have the most to do with its prospects. The Old Greenwich and Cos Cob stations, which I believe are owned by the Town of Greenwich (or maybe CT) were recently renovated, and are now quite ni...

Knowing the corporate history of MNRR and its predecessors, as well as the timeframe when the M2s came on line, I infer that it was the PC that set the specs for the M1s and M2s, back around 1970. Is this correct?

I guess this is off-topic for the forum, but there is an extensive display of photos, maps, and tunneling information on the ESA plan outside the Transit Museum store in GCT. Very interesting stuff, looks like limited access to GCT from the new LIRR platforms (on one end of the dining concourse). NH...
