Hey BigDell, The RVRR has been completely out of service since 1992. The M&E was contracted by Union County to rebuilt the line in 2001, but funding ran out by 2007 and the project remains uncompleted. The railroad lays abandoned in various states. On the side of the ROW opposite Jaeger Lumber there are powerlines that run parallel to the ROW. I do not think it was a lightning strike, but possibly a transformer explosion or a fallen power line.

Does anyone have any good photos of the double track bridge over the Delaware River between Portland, PA and Delaware, NJ? When was it used last? I think occasionally coal trains for the power plant must pull onto the bridge for longer trains.
