In case you didn't know, the latest locomotive to have the name of a town served by Metra on both sides of the cab exterior is 210. That name happens to be "Village of Westmont." This was recently done because when I last saw 210 in action, November 26th, both sides of its cab were still b...

For those who have not heard: Back in town are the final F40Ms, 195 and 213. With that said, this rebuild program is now officially over. I am curious about which locomotives Metra may consider rebuilding next. Any and all plans will undoubtedly be delayed as a result of this pandemic. 100-149 are ...

Since this forum was last updated, units 199 and 210 have returned from Progress Rail. Last to return are 195 and 213.

Hi all. I am not sure if someone has already posted a topic regarding this, because I didn't spot anything while skimming through, but I've heard of the terms "massive engine failure" and "catastrophic failure" which are sometimes used to describe a serious mechanical problem inv...

Although I am not one of those environment-obsessed tree-huggers, I do support the idea of recycling, and putting the old Metra Pullmans to good use wins full support from me. These are classic coaches and they deserve to be preserved at museums or used by other commuter rail agencies and excursion ...

Taking the place of the set of 2200s in the Harlem yard on the Green Line is a set of candy-cane 2400s. I am not sure why they are there, but I've noticed they remain in the same spot. Could they have been pulled from service to eventually receive a similar fate?

Speaking of locomotive breakdowns, 210 really bit the bullet yesterday on the SWS and was doubleheaded with 116. I had both locomotives on Train 836. T831 had 116 and 210 of course, and broke down at Wrightwood. 210 was the problem child. HEP was lost, the air was dumped, the train had to express to...

207 continues to be a problem child on the Rock Island. It broke down again last night on one of its first solo runs since being shopped after its breakdown 2 weeks ago. It was back at 47th today for more repairs. The Winnebagos really need an overhaul! I wonder if the MPs will be getting overhaule...

I'm not sure what- if anything- caused it, but I guarantee you no type of investigation was done. They just fix it and move on. Whatever it was could not have been very serious if it was fixed this fast. Do we even know for a fact there was an actual fire? It could've just been a bunch of smoke fro...

Joliet has two Metra lines, so why not Elgin? For reasons that are a complex combination of history, evolution, and politics. Also, Joliet commuters have a choice of two downtown Chicago terminals to choose from during rush hours. If the new CN line from Elgin could be routed into LaSalle St (which...

I am so happy to hear 176 has returned, but I'm sure an investigation was done to determine the exact cause of the fire so it doesn't happen again, to any unit. Does anyone have any information on exactly why 176 experienced that fire?

Over the weekend, 176 had a fire while pushing an inbound train in Mount Prospect
Obviously it's out of commission, but does anyone know for how long and how serious the fire damage may have been? I am curious as to what might become of 176.
