It's the bridge over the canal that does have structural issues, don't know the status of repairs though.
Whole parade of MOW equipment went south behind my condo in Holyoke at 8:15am, with more following. Crossing lights keep going on and off, they might be working on them as no vehicles are passing by at the time.
The State of Massachusetts bought the Connecticut River Line from Springfield to the East Northfield Switch, where the track connects with NECR a few years back, and they WILL be running commuter service north from Springfield probably within the next 5-10 years. Norfolk Southern track crews replace...
Just a guess, but I'd say the three of them together are worth exactly $5.94, can anyone figure out the math on this one?
"Nice" to see that some things never change, the good folks of Plainville were pretty much the same when I was growing up in Connecticut 30+ years ago. Not like I never put coins on the tracks, matter of fact I still have a mashed Quarter hanging around someplace, but this is waaaaay out o...
What accident? I posted on the Pan Am Yahoo group about a short (EDPL?) that went south and then came back north about an hour later last night, south was between 7:30pm and 8pm, north was just past 8:30pm. Power was a lashup of P&W 2009 and MEC 352, and besides the tanks I couldn't see the rest...
In Springfield, if you look on Google Earth, the remains of the New York, New Haven, & Hartford Roundhouse can be clearly seen JUST south of the Boston & Albany tracks, and to the west of I-91. The pit and turntable were just to the south, I believe the roundhouse was 10+ stalls, but if some...
I'm surprised that nobody mentioned the turntable at East Deerfield, the pit's there and as far as I know, the turntable is still used.
Peace,
Jonathan
The Williamsburg Branch was intended to bust over the Berkshire Range to North Adams, though that project never went through. I think the more laughable route is the Brattleboro-North Adams line... Correct! That was the primary routing, although I've studied old maps that show other proposed extens...
Here's another one: The light blue line between Northampton and Pittsfield is interesting, because it never existed! The line was originally a branch of the Canal Line which only extended as far as Williamsburg.
Peace,

I've noticed something interesting about the southbound Vermonter #55/#57 recently, since Sunday the trains have run on time (2:16pm is the listed time for the Holyoke stop), or so close as makes no difference. The ONLY time the southbound has been on time was in 2015 the day the Holyoke platform wa...
Swung by East Deerfield this afternoon. Saw POED? yarding with 3 of the "new" GE's. Also, there was a pile of road construction signs & barrels along with detour signs piled up in the grassy area to the left of the railfan bridge. I heard talk of bridge reconstruction last year. Maybe...
I think the Griffin's branch of the CNEZ should be stated. Pretty much the duration of my childhood in central CT was spent watching the state tie itself into knots debating the Hartford-Bradley "Griffin Line" (dropping the "s") light rail line that was going to go on the Griffi...
Yesterday's #56 had two NECR units in the blue/gold paint scheme in addition to the two Amtrak locomotives. Why the extra power? Is it the snow up north? He was also running late at 4:20pm.
Peace,
Jonathan
